Athol is a very small community along Nova Scotia Route 302, Route 302 in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It is located between Amherst, Nova Scotia, Amherst and Parrsboro. The community is named after John Murray, 4th Duke of Atholl. It has no major businesses apart from a moderate sized lumber business owned and run by a number of brothers from the same family. When the lumber season is quiet it just so happens to be the season for blueberries which is big business. Athol has a very small population. The school line for Parrsboro Regional High School and River Hebert District High School is located in Athol. Route 302 is a collector road in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It is in Cumberland County and connects Amherst at Trunk 2 with Southampton at Trunk 2. It is designated as part of the Fundy Shore Scenic Drive. John Murray, 4th Duke of Atholl, KT, PC, FRS (30 June 1755 – 29 September 1830), styled Marquess of Tullibardine from 1764 to 1774, was a Scottish peer. Life and career Murray was the eldest son of John Murray, 3rd Duke of Atholl, and his wife, Charlotte, 8th Baroness Strange, daughter of James Murray, 2nd Duke of Atholl. His parents were first cousins. Lord George Murray and Lord Charles Murray-Aynsley were his younger brothers. He became known by the courtesy title Marquess of Tullibardine when his father succeeded to the dukedom in 1764. Springhill is a community located in central Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. The community was founded as "Springhill Mines". Coal mining led to economic growth, with its incorporation as a town in 1889. Maccan River (Nova Scotia)
The Maccan River is a small tidal river contained completely within Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. The river terminates at the confluence of River Hebert at Amherst Point, and empties into the Cumberland Basin. The river's tidal bore may be viewed from the Tidal Wetlands Park in Maccan. According to estimates by the Province of Nova Scotia, there are 9,092 people resident within the Maccan/Kelly/Hebert watershed in 2011.
