Japan National Stadium (2019)
The Japan National Stadium, officially the , alternatively , and a.k.a. formerly is a multi-purpose stadium used mostly for association football in Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. The facility served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the venue for track and field athletics events at the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics in 2021. Demolition of the old National Stadium was completed in May 2015, allowing for the construction of the new stadium to begin on 11 December 2016. The original plans for the new stadium were scrapped in July 2015 by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, who announced a rebid after a public outcry prompted by increased building costs. As a result, the new design was not ready for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, as originally intended. Johannes Nambala
Johannes Nambala (born 15 February 1991) is a Paralympian athlete from Namibia competing mainly in category T13 sprint events. In 2013 he became the first Namibian to win a gold medal at an IPC Athletics World Championships, when he won the 400m sprint in Lyon. As well as World Championship success Nambala has also won two silver Paralympic medals, both silver, and both won at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. Personal life Nambala was born in 1991 in the village of Iikokola, in the Uukwaluudhi District of Namibia. He was born with a congenital complication that left him visually impaired; though he is not blind. Nambala now lives in Windhoek, and was educated at Windhoek Technical High School. Zachary Gingras (born 30 July 2001) is a Canadian Paralympic athlete. Career He started para athletics aged 15 in Toronto. Gingras has played for the Canadian Para Soccer Team. At the Parapan American Games in Lima, his major Games debut, he raced to a silver medal in the T38 400m final with a time of 53.16 seconds, a personal best. Nicholas "Nick" Mayhugh (born February 27, 1996) is an American T37 and T38 Paralympic sprint runner and soccer player. He represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Soccer Mayhugh played soccer at Radford University from 2015 to 2018. He also played for the United States men's Paralympic soccer team where he helped team USA win a bronze medal at the 2019 Parapan American Games in the 7-a-side football, their first ever medal in the event at the Parapan American Games. He finished second in the tournament with eight goals in six games. He was subsequently named U.S. Soccer Player of the Year with a Disability in 2019. Andrey Vdovin (, also transliterated Andrei Vdovin, born 26 February 1994) is a Russian parasport athlete competing mainly in category T37 sprint and middle-distance events. A triple gold medal winner at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships, Vdovin also set three world records in his class between 2013 and 2014. Personal history Vdovin was born in Dzerzhinsk, Russia in 1994. He has cerebral palsy. After leaving secondary education he enrolled at the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University to study Information Technology. Athletics career Vdovin took up athletics at the age of 10 and later joined the Specialised Children's Youth Sport School of Olympic Reserve in Zarya. William Stedman (born 5 December 1999) is a New Zealand para-athlete, competing in sprints, middle-distance running and long jump events. Biography Stedman attended Middleton Grange School in Christchurch, New Zealand. He studies engineering at the University of Canterbury. Evgeny Shvetsov (born 28 February 1988) is a Paralympian track and field athlete from Russia competing mainly in category T36 sprint and middle-distance events. A triple gold medal winner at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Shvetsov set three world records in his class between 2012 and 2013. Career history 2012 London Shvetsov came to world attention as an athlete at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London where he entered the 100m and 400m sprints and the 800m middle-distance race. In the 100m he qualified through his heat in first position in a time of 12.11s, a new Paralympic record. In the final he shave three thousands of that record, taking the Paralympic title and pushing Graeme Ballard (Great Britain) and Roman Pavlyk (Ukraine) into silver and bronze positions. James Michael Apsley Turner, (born 22 May 1996) is an Australian Paralympic athlete and soccer player with cerebral palsy. He has represented Australia as part of the Australia Paralympic soccer team, the ParaRoos, and was its player of the year in 2013.
