Atanas Zafirov
Atanas Zafirov Zafirov () is a Bulgarian politician who has served as Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria since 2025. A member of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, which he currently leads, he previously served as Member of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, National Assembly from 2013 to 2017 and from 2021 to 2025. Early life and education He was born on 29 September 1971 in Burgas. Zafirov attended Veliko Tarnovo University, graduating with a degree in "Bulgarian History and Language" in 1994. He received a second degree in "Finance" from the university in 2007. In 2019, Zafirov received a degree from the Georgi Rakovski Military Academy in national security. Political career According to Zafirov's personal recollections, he had been interested in politics around the age of 14, when he joined the youth movement of the Bulgarian Communist Party, Dimitrov Communist Youth Union, DMKS, in 1985. Georgi Rakovski Military Academy
The Georgi Rakovski Military Academy (), based in Sofia, is Bulgaria's oldest military institution of higher education. It is named after Bulgarian revolutionary writer Georgi Sava Rakovski. History It was officially established on 1 March 1912 with an act of the National Assembly of Bulgaria and opened on 4 January 1915, delayed due to the Balkan Wars. Since its creation, the academy has served as the main institution for the training of military commanders and personnel in Bulgaria and the primary one in the field of national security and military science, as well as NATO operational compatibility. The academy trains 1,500 officers and civil individuals a year and has 148 qualified lecturers. It is headed by Major-General Grudi Ivanov. Rumen Georgiev Radev (, born 18 June 1963) is a Bulgarian politician and former major general who has been the President of Bulgaria since 2017. Radev previously served as higher commander of the Bulgarian Air Force. June 2024 Bulgarian Parliamentary Election
Early parliamentary elections were held in Bulgaria on 9 June 2024, to elect members of the National Assembly. The election coincided with the European Parliament election on the same day. This parliamentary election was initially scheduled to be held before 12 June 2027; however, the planned rotation agreed to by GERB and PP–DB failed to materialise in March 2024, and no other government could be formed. GERB–SDS had the best results, winning nearly 24% of the vote and 68 seats, but it did not obtain a majority in the National Assembly. Voter turnout was 34%, which was the lowest turnout since the end of communist rule in 1989. Vahagn Garniki Khachaturyan (, ; born 22 April 1959) is an Armenian economist and politician who has served as the fifth and current president of Armenia since 2022 Armenian presidential election, 2022. He previously served as mayor of Yerevan from 1992 to 1996 and Ministry of High-Tech Industry (Armenia), minister of High-Tech Industry from 2021 to 2022 under Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
