Persea
''Persea'' is a genus of about 111 species of evergreen trees belonging to the laurel family, Lauraceae. The best-known member of the genus is the avocado, ''P. americana'', widely cultivated in subtropical regions for its large, edible fruit. Overview They are medium-size trees, tall at maturity. The leaf, leaves are simple, lanceolate to broad lanceolate, varying with species from long and broad, and arranged spirally or alternately on the stems. The flowers are in short panicles, with six small greenish-yellow perianth segments long, nine stamens and an ovary with a single embryo. The fruit is an oval or pear-shaped berry (botany), berry, with a fleshy outer covering surrounding the single seed; size is very variable among the species, from in e.g. ''P. indica'', up to in some cultivars of ''P. americana''. Distribution and ecology The species of ''Persea'' have a disjunct distribution, with about 109 Neotropical realm, Neotropical species, ranging from Argentina and Ch ...

Graphidales Genera
Graphidales is an order (biology), order of lichen-forming fungi in the class Lecanoromycetes. It contains 6 family (biology), families, about 81 genus, genera and about 2,228 species. Family Graphidaceae are the largest crustose family within Graphidales order comprising more than 2000 species, which are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. History The Graphidales were introduced in a 1884 publication by Frigyes Ákos Hazslinszky in Magyar Birodalom Zuzmó-Flórája on page 216 as family Graphideae. In 1907, they were established as an Order (biology), order by American botanist Charles Edwin Bessey, Bessey (1845–1915), When the order was introduced, it contained just two families, the Graphidaceae and Thelotremataceae who were both mainly tropical based and each family had about 800–1000 species. Sherwood in 1977 proposed to maintain a distinction between the Graphidales with mostly lichenised members and the Ostropales which included mostl ...

Lichen Genera
A lichen ( , ) is a hybrid colony (biology), colony of algae or cyanobacteria living symbiotically among hypha, filaments of multiple fungus species, along with yeasts and bacteria embedded in the cortex or "skin", in a mutualism (biology), mutualistic relationship.Introduction to Lichens – An Alliance between Kingdoms
. University of California Museum of Paleontology. .
Lichens are the lifeform that first brought the term symbiosis (as ''Symbiotismus'') into biological context. Lichens have since been recognized as important actors in nutrient cycling and producers which many higher trophic feeders feed on, such as reindeer, gastropods, nematodes, mites, and springtails. Lichens have properties different from those of their component organisms. They come in man ...

Asterothyrium Vezdae
''Asterothyrium vezdae'' is a species of foliicolous (leaf-dwelling) lichen in the family Gomphillaceae. It is found in Bolivia, where it grows on the leaves of vascular plants in the Amazon rainforest. The lichen is distinguished from its closest relative, ''Asterothyrium octomerum'', by the larger number of septa in its , and its and black apothecia. Taxonomy ''Asterothyrium vezdae'' was described as a new species in 2008 by Adam Flakus and Robert Lücking. The type specimen was collected by the first author in Nuevos Reyes village ( José Ballivián Province, Beni Department) at an altitude of . The species epithet honours Czech lichenologist Antonín Vězda, "for his numerous and significant contributions to the study of foliicolous lichens world-wide". Description The thallus of ''Asterothyrium vezdae'' is (growing on the upper leaf surface), forming rounded to irregular patches that are 1–2 mm in diameter, with a thickness of 20–30 μm. The entire thallu ...
