Association Montessori Internationale
Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) is an Amsterdam-based global non-governmental organization dedicated to Montessori education. Objectives AMI was constituted in 1929, by Maria Montessori, to maintain and develop her pedagogy with the purpose of making it available to as many children as possible worldwide. The AMI Scientific Pedagogy Group determine the nature of Montessori educational materials in use worldwide and AMI maintains legal contracts with authorised manufacturers; Nienhuis in the Netherlands, Gonzagarredi in Italy, Matsumoto in Japan and Agaworld in South Korea. Jaime Torres Bodet
Jaime Mario Torres Bodet (17 April 1902 – 13 May 1974) was a prominent Mexican politician and writer who served in the executive cabinet of three Presidents of Mexico. He was the second Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), serving from 1948 until his resignation in 1952. Life Torres Bodet was born in Mexico City. His mother was Emilia Bodet Levallois, a Peruvian of French heritage, and his father was Alejandro Torres Girbent from Barcelona. Nancy McCormick Rambusch (April 29, 1927 – October 27, 1994) was an American educator who founded the American Montessori Society in 1960. The founder of the Whitby School, Rambusch served as a leading proponent of Montessori education in the United States, writing and lecturing widely. Early life Rambusch was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 29, 1927, to parents Kathleen Wright, a schoolteacher, and Thomas McCormick, an ophthalmologist. A lifelong Roman Catholic, she attended parochial schools in the Milwaukee area and enrolled in Dominican University. Transferring to the University of Toronto, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with honors in 1949. While at Toronto, she encountered the writings of Maria Montessori.
