Asociación Deportiva San Carlos is a Costa Rican association football, football team based in Ciudad Quesada, the capital of San Carlos (canton), San Carlos, Alajuela Province, Alajuela. They currently play in the Primera División de Costa Rica, Costa Rican First Division. Their home stadium is Estadio Carlos Ugalde Álvarez. History The club was founded on 9 May 1965, after local clubs ''El Refugio'' and ''El Maravilla'' merged to become ''Selección de San Carlos'' and won promotion to the Primera División in 1965. They were relegated in 1971 and stayed in the Second División until returning at the top level in 1978. In 2004 they were relegated again after 25 years in the Primera, staying in the second tier for another two years. 2018–19 Liga FPD
The 2018–19 Liga FPD season, also known as Campeonato Banco Popular for sponsorship reasons, is the 98th since its establishment. The tournament is the second since the 2006–07 season to use the Apertura and Clausura names to their short tournaments, marking a departure from the Invierno and Verano tournaments. The Voit Lummo is the official match ball of the tournament. Deportivo Saprissa are the defending champions, after defeating Herediano in the Clausura 2018 tournament.
