Askania-Nova
Askania-Nova () is a biosphere reserve located in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine, within the dry Taurida steppe near Oleshky Sands. An active member of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme, the reserve maintains and conserves native steppe habitat and endemic species while also caring for rare and exotic animal species from around the world. It is also a research institute of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine. The reserve consists of a zoological park, as well as over 33,000 hectares (81,000+ acres) of grassland habitat for herds of ungulate mammals. There are also many botanical (dendrological) gardens, featuring hundreds of plant species, and a vast open territory of virgin steppe. Seven Wonders Of Ukraine
The Seven Wonders of Ukraine ( ) are seven historical and cultural monuments of Ukraine, which were chosen in the ''Seven Wonders of Ukraine'' contest held in July, 2007. This was the first public contest of that kind which was followed by the Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine, the Seven Wonderful Routes of Ukraine, and the Seven Wonderful Castles of Ukraine. All nominated sites are publicly owned protected areas of at least regional level, available for tourism. Kakhovka Raion
Kakhovka Raion () is one of the administrative raions (a ''district'') of Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine. Its administrative center is located in the city of Nova Kakhovka. Oleshky Sands
Oleshky Sands is a semi-desert in Ukraine inland from the Black Sea. It consists of sand dunes or ''kuchuhury'' (locally), which are up to five meters high. Sparse vegetation can be located across the sands. Origin The sands are thought to be formed during the most recent ice age by aeolian processes accumulating and forming cliffs of lower parts of nearby River Dnipro. It is speculated that the amount of vegetation was reduced by herds of sheep who were introduced there by who used the sands, formerly populated by weeds, as a pasture.
