Asim Malik
Muhammad Asim Malik, is a Pakistani three-star general and the current Director-General of Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), a position he has held since 30 September 2024. He is the first PhD holder to be appointed Director-General of the ISI. He is also first ISI chief to be appointed 10th National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan since 2025. Early life and education Malik was born to Lt. Gen. (R.) Ghulam Muhammad Malik into a Punjabi Awan family with their ancestral roots in Shahpur, a city located in the Sargodha District of the Punjab province. Malik earned his BSc (Hons) from the University of Balochistan in 1999 and then studied at Fort Leavenworth in the United States, where he has written thesis on Mountain Warfare titled as the ''Mountain Warfare: The Need for Specialist Training.'' Lieutenant General (Pakistan)
Lieutenant General is a Three-star rank, three-star army officer rank in the Pakistan Army. It is equivalent to a vice admiral in the Pakistan Navy and an air marshal in the Pakistan Air Force. A lieutenant general is also called a three-star General (Pakistan), general. Like other armies, this rank is higher than a major general and lower than a full general. There are currently 30 Lieutenant Generals in the Pakistan Army, with each usually presiding over a corps. The Pakistan Army has followed the British Army rank system since its independence from the British Empire in 1947. However, the crown in the ranks has been replaced with a star and crescent, which symbolizes the sovereignty of the Government of Pakistan. The war in Afghanistan was a prolonged armed conflict lasting from 2001 to 2021. The ''Hilal-e-Imtiaz'' (; ), also spelled as ''Hilal-i-Imtiaz,'' is the second-highest (in the order of "Imtiaz") Awards and decorations of the Pakistan military, civilian award and honour given to both civilians and military Officer (armed forces), officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces by the Government of Pakistan. Ghulam Muhammad Malik
Ghulam Muhammad Malik (also called G.M. Malik) is a Pakistani former military officer who commanded the 10 Corps, Rawalpindi of the Pakistan Army. 10 Corps was responsible for defending the entire Line of Control between Pakistan administered Kashmir and the Indian-administered Kashmir. He retired from the army in 1995, and has since headed a charity to build hospitals and medical facilities for the poor in various parts of Pakistan. His son Asim Malik is also serving in Pak Army. Operation Azm-e-Istehkam
Operation Azm-e-Istehkam () is a counter-insurgency operation launched by the government of Pakistan in June 2024. The operation was approved by prime minister Shehbaz Sharif. The operation will include not only military action, but also socio-economic uplift to deter extremism. Etymology translates into "Commitment for Stability" or "Resolve for Stability".
