Asiatyrannus
''Asiatyrannus'' (meaning "Asian tyrant") is an extinct genus of tyrannosaurine theropod dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous Nanxiong Formation of China. The genus contains a single species, ''A. xui'', known from a single specimen consisting of a skull and partial postcranial skeleton. ''Asiatyrannus'' is notable for its deep-snouted skull and small body size, in contrast to the gracile snout and larger size of the contemporary ''Qianzhousaurus''. It represents the southernmost record of an Asian tyrannosaurid. Discovery and naming The ''Asiatyrannus'' holotype specimen, ZMNH M30360, was discovered in September 2017 in sediments of the Nanxiong Formation near Shahe Town in Nankang District of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, China. Nanxiong Formation
The Nanxiong Formation (also known as Yuanpu Formation) is a Late Cretaceous geologic Formation (geology), formation in Guangdong Province. Dinosaur remains are among the fossils that have been recovered from the formation. Description It consists of continental siliciclastic red beds, with fauna which similar to that of the Nemegt Formation. It has been dated to about 66.7 ± 0.3 million years ago. It is the lowest unit of the Nanxiong Basin, a small graben created during Mesozoic rifting. Buck et al. state that it overlies Jurassic granite Basement (geology), basement, and is conformably overlain by the Shanghu Formation. Alternative stratigraphic schemes for the Nanxiong basin have been proposed, one of which refers to the Nanxiong succession as the Nanxiong Group, and dividing it into the Yuanpu, Zhutian and Zhenshui formations, and overlying the Albian to Turonian Changba Formation. Nanuqsaurus
''Nanuqsaurus'' (meaning "polar bear lizard") is a genus of tyrannosaurine theropod dinosaur known from the Late Cretaceous period (middle Maastrichtian age) Prince Creek Formation of the North Slope of Alaska, having lived roughly 70-68 million years ago. It contains a single species, ''Nanuqsaurus hoglundi'', known from a partial skull and multiple undescribed postcranial and teeth elements. ''Qianzhousaurus'' (meaning "Qianzhou lizard") is a genus of tyrannosaurid dinosaur that lived in Asia during the Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous period. There is currently only one species named, the type species ''Qianzhousaurus sinensis'', which is a member of the tribe Alioramini and most closely related to '' Alioramus'', the only other known alioramin. Tyrannosaurine
Tyrannosaurinae (or tyrannosaurines) is one of the two extinct subfamilies of Tyrannosauridae, a family of coelurosaurian theropods that consists of at least three tribes and several genera. All fossils of these genera have been found in the Late Cretaceous deposits of western North America and east Asia. Compared to the related subfamily Albertosaurinae, tyrannosaurines overall are more robust and larger though the alioramins were gracile by comparison. This subfamily also includes ''Lythronax'', one of the oldest known tyrannosaurid genera, as well as the youngest and most famous member of the group, ''Tyrannosaurus rex''. Xu Xing (; born July 1969) is a Chinese paleontologist who has named more dinosaurs than any other living paleontologist. Such dinosaurs include the Jurassic ceratopsian '' Yinlong'', the Jurassic tyrannosauroid '' Guanlong'', the large oviraptorosaur '' Gigantoraptor'', and the troodontid '' Mei''. Biography Xing was born in Xinjiang, China, in 1969. A graduate from the department of geology of Peking University, he is currently a researcher at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. He had originally planned to become an economist. However, he was assigned to the department of geology by the Chinese authorities. Albertosaurus
''Albertosaurus'' (; meaning "Alberta lizard") is a genus of large tyrannosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in northwestern North America during the early to middle Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous period, about 71 million years ago. The type species, ''A. sarcophagus'', was apparently restricted in range to the modern-day Canadian province of Alberta, after which the genus is named, although an indeterminate species ("cf. ''Albertosaurus'' sp.") has been discovered in the Corral de Enmedio and Packard Formations of Mexico.
