Asian Art Biennial
Asian Art Biennial is a contemporary art biennial organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung, Taiwan. It was first launched in 2007 with the mission to "explore the multiplicity of perspectives that inform contemporary reality" in Asia, to "facilitate intercultural dialogues through art" and to "enhance understanding of cultural perspectives of Asia" and its dynamic artistic creativity. The Biennial's first two editions, in 2007 and 2009, were curated by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts chief curator TSAI Chao-Yi. In the following years, curator of exhibitions Iris Shu-Ping Huang took on this role. The Biennial first invited guest curators for its 6th edition in 2017 and has been organized by curatorial teams of two or more curators from different countries and regions in Asia in its subsequent editions. Art Biennial
Biennale (), Italian for "biennial" or "every other year", is any event that happens every two years. It is most commonly used within the art world to describe large-scale international contemporary art exhibitions. As such the term was popularised by Venice Biennale, which was first held in 1895. Since the 1990s, the terms "biennale" and "biennial" have been interchangeably used in a more generic way - to signify a large-scale international survey show of contemporary art that recurs at regular intervals but not necessarily biannual (such as triennials, Documenta, Skulptur Projekte Münster). National Taiwan Museum Of Fine Arts
The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA; ) is a museum in West District, Taichung, Taiwan. NTMoFA was established in 1988 and is the first and the only national-grade fine arts museum in Taiwan. The major collections are works by Taiwanese artists, covering modern and contemporary Taiwanese arts. The museum covers 102,000 square meters, including the Public Outdoor Sculpture park, making it one of the largest museums in Asia. National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts was temporarily closed for renovation in 1999 due to damages caused by the 921 Earthquake and reopened in July 2004. Wassan Al-Khudhairi
Wassan Al-Khudhairi is a curator who specializes in modern and contemporary art from the Arab world. In 2017 she was appointed Chief Curator of the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. As the first ever director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Al-Khudhairi was responsible for developing the newly established institution, overseeing policy development, acquisitions and collections registration. Ho Tzu Nyen
Ho Tzu Nyen (; born 1976) is a Singaporean contemporary artist and filmmaker whose works involve film, video, performance, and immersive multimedia installations. His work brings together fact and myth to mobilise different understandings of Southeast Asia's history, politics, and religion, often premised upon a complex set of references from art history, to theatre, cinema, and philosophy. Ho has shown internationally at major exhibitions such as the Aichi Triennale, Japan (2019), the Sharjah Biennial 14, United Arab Emirates (2019), and the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea (2018).
