Ashuganj
Ashuganj or Ashugonj () is a town in Brahmanbaria District of Chittagong Division, Bangladesh in Meghna River delta. Its altitude is 10 meters (36 feet). The city is known for the Port of Ashuganj and for its power plant which generates much of the electricity for the country, especially for the capital city. Almost 25% of Bangladesh's electrical generation is produced in Ashugonj Power Station. Zia Fertilizer Ltd is on the other side of Ashuganj. It produces chemical fertilizer for the country. There are more than 500 rice mills, which means above 40% of the national rice output. Ashuganj is known also as a commercial hub, with a big river port. There is a Transit Line in Ashugonj which communicates with India. It is also very well known as a layover destination for coach bus routes from Dhaka to Sylhet, and vice versa with hotels such as Hotel Ujan Vati and Hotel Razmoni. Meghna Heli Bridge
Operation Cactus Lilly, better known as The Meghna Heli Bridge or the Crossing of the Meghna, was an air assault operation conducted between 9 and 12 December 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It was conducted by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force to cross the Meghna River, bypass a Pakistani stronghold at Ashuganj/ Bhairab Bazar and reach Dhaka. The operation is generally regarded as the brainchild of Maj. Gen. (later Lt. Gen.) Sagat Singh. Without it, Indian forces would not have been able to complete the encirclement of Dhaka and it would likely have led to a lengthening of the war. Port Of Ashuganj
The Port of Ashuganj is a notable river port in eastern Bangladesh. It is one of the important industrial ports of the Bengal delta. It is located on the Meghna River. The port is a regional transshipment center in Eastern South Asia. Location The port is located 28 km from Brahmanbaria town and 43 km from the Akhaura land border between Bangladesh and India. Facilities The port is located in an industrial area in the vicinity of the Ashuganj Power Station, a 1777 megawatt thermal power plant which is one of the largest in Bangladesh. The port is also the terminal for a large fertilizer and chemical plant; as well as smaller power plants. The port hosts several warehouses and shipyards. Its industrial units receive gas supplies from the nearby Titas Gas field. Brahmanbaria District
Brahmanbaria District () is a district in eastern Bangladesh located in the Chittagong Division. Geographically, it is mostly farmland and is topographically part of the Gangetic Plain. It is bounded by the districts of Kishoreganj District, Kishoreganj and Habiganj District, Habiganj to the north, Narsingdi District and Narayanganj District, Narayanganj to the west, Comilla District, Comilla to the south, and the Indian state of Tripura to the east. Meghna River
The Meghna () is one of the major rivers in Bangladesh, one of the three that form the Ganges Delta, the largest delta on earth, which fans out to the Bay of Bengal. A part of the Surma-Meghna River System, the Meghna is formed inside Bangladesh in Kishoreganj District above the town of Bhairab Bazar by the joining of the Surma and the Kushiyara, both of which originate in the hilly regions of eastern India as the Barak River.
