Nemuro Main Line
is a railway line in Hokkaido operated by Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido), connecting Takikawa Station in Takikawa and Nemuro Station in Nemuro, including Obihiro and Kushiro. Higashi-Nemuro is the most easterly situated station on the Japanese rail system. As a result of damage from torrential rainfall on 31 August 2016, the passenger service between Higashi-Shikagoe and Shintoku was replaced by a bus service. On 19 November 2016, JR Hokkaido's president announced plans to rationalise the network by up to 1,237 km, or ~50% of the current network, including closure of the Nemuro Line between Furano and Kami-Ochiai Junction. The section between Kushiro and Nemuro is proposed for conversion to Third Sector operation, but if local governments are not agreeable, such sections will also face closure. Dai Kannon Of Kita No Miyako Park
The Dai Kannon of Kita no Miyako park (Japanese: 北海道大観音), also known as the Hokkaido Kannon, as well as the Byakue Kannon, is the third-tallest statue in Japan and is the tenth-tallest statue in the world, tied with the Grand Buddha at Ling Shan. It was the tallest statue in the world when it opened in 1989 at , holding the world record until 1991. Planning of the statue began in 1975 and construction occurred through 1989. The statue depicts Guanyin (Avalokiteśvara) and is in the Kita no Miyako park on the island of Hokkaido. The statue contains over 20 floors with an elevator, with floors containing shrines and places of worship, eight in total, and a platform providing a panoramic view of the area to visitors. Yūbari Mountains
is a mountain range of Hokkaidō, Japan. Part of this range is protected by the . Geology The Yūbari Mountains continue the north–south line begun by the Teshio Mountains. The mountains are the result of the collision between the Kurile Island Arc and the Northeastern Japan Arc. Three formations make up the Yūbari mountains: * Jurassic-Cretaceous formations. This forms the main ridge. It consists of serpentine and rocks of the Sorachi Group. The Sorachi Group consists of chert, greenschist, micrite limestone, and sandstone with felsic tuff. * Cretaceous forearc sediments. Hokkaido

Utashinai, Hokkaido
is a city located in Sorachi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. It is Japan's smallest city by population. History It was formerly a prosperous coal mining city, but has declined greatly since the closing of the coal mines. The population hit a maximum of 46,000 in 1948, and has been decreasing every year since. Efforts to transform Utashinai from a gritty coal mining town to an alpine tourist destination have met with mixed success. The town has adopted a Swiss theme as part of its tourist oriented strategy and many new buildings are Swiss chalet style. A medium-sized ski hill, Kamoidake, attracts a decent crowd of locals and hosts frequent ski meets, while a hot spring resort called Tyrol, after the Austrian region, is known throughout Hokkaido for the quality of its water.
