Ashford, New South Wales
Ashford is a small village situated in the north-west on the Northern Tablelands of the state of New South Wales. The New England rural village of Ashford lies within the broad sunlit lands 748 km north of Sydney, 500 km south west of Brisbane, close to the Queensland border. Ashford is 430 metres above sea level and located 56 km north of Inverell on a major arterial road, connecting the Gwydir and Bruxner highways through to the Queensland border. History "Frazer's Creek" Post Office was established in 1853 and renamed Ashford in 1863. The first police station was opened in 1864 and the first school in 1868. Fred Ward a bushranger, known as "Captain Thunderbolt" rode in the area in 1867. Ashford Carbonell (or Ashford Carbonel) is a village and civil parish in south Shropshire, England, near the county border with Herefordshire. The village lies south of the market town of Ludlow, on the eastern side of the River Teme, facing the smaller Ashford Bowdler. Ashford is a census-designated place (CDP) mostly within Pierce County, Washington, United States. Its population was 303 as of the 2020 census. The town is west of the main (Nisqually River) entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. Surrounding mountains and the narrow Nisqually River valley are heavily forested. Some of Ashford is across the Nisqually River in Lewis County. History Ashford was named for Walter A. Ashford, who homesteaded there in 1888. Satsuma (also Ashford and Thompson Switch) is an area in northern unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. Satsuma is located along U.S. Route 290, southeast of the community of Cypress and northwest of the city of Jersey Village. It was named for the groves of Satsuma mandarin oranges that were to be planted on site. Despite the presence of oil, the town never developed beyond the early 1900s. Ashford Mill is a former mill in Inyo County, California. It was located in Death Valley, at an elevation of 121 feet (37 m) below sea level. The place is now protected ruins within Death Valley National Park. The original mill at the site was built in 1914 by brothers named Ashford. The ore was processed here from the Golden Treasure Mine 5 miles to the east in the Amargosa Range, and processed for further smelting.
