Asad (film)
''Asad'' is a 2012 South African-American short film directed by Bryan Buckley. The film was nominated for the 2012 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. Produced in South Africa by Mino Jarjoura of Hungry Man Productions, the cast is made up of Somali refugees living in South Africa, none of whom had any acting experience prior to production. After being nominated for an Oscar, the film was released along with all the other 15 Oscar-nominated short films in theaters by ShortsHD. Plot Asad is a fisher boy in Somalia. His friends, led by Laban, are pirates; Asad feels as if he is suited for the pirate life. An old fisherman named Erasto would rather stick to an honest fishing life as opposed to piracy. Asad has never been able to catch anything on his fishing trips and is beginning to give up hope. Erasto tries to lift his spirits with his largest catch of the day. Bryan Buckley
Bryan Buckley is an American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and two-time Academy Award nominated director. Buckley's directorial debut came with a series of commercials he created for NHL on ESPN, before creating the "This is ''SportsCenter''" campaign for ESPN in 1999. The work became a part of the ESPN brand, and launched Buckley into the commercial world. Buckley would go on to direct over 70 Super Bowl commercials. His first feature film '' The Bronze'' (2015), opened the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, while his second, '' The Pirates of Somalia'' (2017), premiered at Tribeca in 2017. The New Orleans Film Festival is an annual film festival organized by the nonprofit organization New Orleans Film Society, a film society founded in 1989. The festival has been held since the society's inception. The festival takes place in mid-October. Boulder International Film Festival
The Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) is held annually in March in Boulder, Colorado. BIFF features films by new and emerging filmmakers, as well as industry directors, writers, producers, and actors. There are 25,000 attendances annually. History The Colorado Film Society (CFS) was founded by filmmakers and sisters Kathy and Robin Beeck. The CFS became a 501C3 nonprofit organization in May of 2004. HollyShorts Film Festival
The HollyShorts Film Festival is an annual Academy Awards-qualifying independent short film festival located in Hollywood, California. History Founded in 2005, the yearly festival programmes feature an eclectic mixture of short films of various genres from around the world. HollyShorts inaugural Film Festival took place at The Space Theatre in Hollywood in August 2005 and featured 23 short films from the U.S., Canada, Poland, the U.K., and Thailand.
