Arístides Mejía
Arístides Mejía Carranza (born July 30, 1960) served as the Vice President Commissioner of Honduras from 1 February 2009 until 28 June 2009. The position of "Vice President Commissioner" was created by former President Manuel Zelaya after then-Vice President Elvin Santos resigned in late 2008. Arístides Mejía didn't fully occupied the charge, he was a Presidential Commissioner not a vice-president since he was appointed by President Zelaya and not popularly elected. Biography He is a son of Arístides Mejía and Orfilia Carranza. He was a lawyer at the National Autonomous University of Honduras. He was the Honduran Ambassador to Greece (1994–1998). The vice presidents of Honduras, also known as presidential designates, officially the designates to the presidency ( es, designados a la presidencia) is the second highest political position in Honduras. According to the current constitution, the president and vice-presidents are elected in the same ticket. 2009 Honduran Coup D'état
The 2009 Honduran coup d'état, part of the 2009 Honduran constitutional crisis, occurred when the Honduran Army on 28 June 2009 followed orders from the Honduran Supreme Court to oust President Manuel Zelaya and send him into exile. Zelaya had attempted to schedule a non-binding poll on holding a referendum on convening a constituent assembly to rewrite the constitution. Zelaya refused to comply with court orders to cease, and the Honduran Supreme Court issued a secret warrant for his arrest dated 26 June. Two days later, Honduran soldiers stormed the president's house in the middle of the night and detained him, forestalling the poll. Instead of bringing him to trial, the army put him on a military aeroplane and flew him to Costa Rica. Elvin Ernesto Santos
Elvin Ernesto Santos Ordóñez (born 18 January 1963 in Tegucigalpa) is a Honduran politician who served as the vice president of Honduras from January 2006 to November 2008, when he resigned to stand as a Liberal Party candidate for the presidency in the 2009 elections. For the 2005 election the constitution was amended to create a single vice president. (Hondurans previously elected three 'presidential designates' on a ticket along with the presidential candidate.)
