Arttu Hyry
Arttu Hyry (born 6 April 2001) is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward for the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Hyry played as a youth within topflight hometown club, Oulun Kärpät of the Liiga. Undrafted and following four seasons with Kärpät in the Liiga, Hyry was signed as a free agent to a two-year, entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars of the NHL on 16 April 2024. In his debut season in North America, Hyry was assigned to begin the 2024–25 season campaign with Dallas' AHL affiliate the Texas Stars. The 2024–25 AHL season was the 89th season of the American Hockey League. The regular season began on October 11, 2024, and ended on April 20, 2025. 2023–24 Liiga Season
The 2023–24 Liiga season was the 49th season of the Liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since its formation in 1975. Format The regular season started on Tuesday, 12 September 2023, with a match between Rauman Lukko and Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho in Rauma. The match was the only one of the day. As in previous seasons, 450 matches will be played in the regular season, 60 for each team. There are 25 full rounds of seven matches played, 16 of which are on Saturdays. A little more than half of the regular season, 262 matches, are played on Fridays and Saturdays. Most weekday games are played on Wednesdays (98). There were a total of 106 game days in the regular season, i.e. eight less than in the previous season. As usual, the series is on break in November for a week and a half while the national teams play in the Euro Hockey Tour. Mestis
Mestis (from , meaning 'Championship series', stylized as MEST1S) is the second-highest men's ice hockey league in Finland. The league was established by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 2000 to replace the I-divisioona ('First Division'). Being promoted to SM-liiga is possible if a Mestis team beats a SM-liiga club in the qualification series and matches all the criteria set by the SM-liiga. Mestis, however, is an open league where relegation and promotion are possible with the 3rd league, Suomi-sarja. Mestis is also the highest league governed by the FIHA. Kokkolan Hermes
Kokkolan Hermes is a Finnish semi-professional ice hockey club based in Kokkola that plays in the Mestis, the second-tier men's league in Finland after Liiga. The club was founded in 1953 and plays their home games at the Kokkolan jäähalli, which has a capacity of 4,200 spectators. The club also supports an active minor ice hockey department, which hosts junior teams in the men's U16 Mestis, U17 Mestis, U18 Mestis, U18 Aluesarja, and U20 Mestis. The 2021–22 Mestis season was the 22nd season of Mestis, the second highest level of ice hockey in Finland after Liiga. Therefore, this season there would be 14 teams. The 2021–22 Liiga season was the 47th season of the Liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since the league's formation in 1975. The match program was on hiatus during the EHT, Karjala Cup from 7 to 14 November. In December, Christmas was a week-long match break. In December, a new ice rink named Tampere Deck Arena (Nokia Arena) was opened in Tampere for the use of Ilves and Tappara. 2020–21 Liiga Season
The 2020–21 SM-liiga season was the 46th season of the SM-liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since the league's formation in 1975. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all the games had to be played to a very limited audience or no audience at all. Two teams have temporarily let go of their coaches due to financial reasons: JYP and SaiPa. The season was Hakametsä's last full season. Nuorten SM-liiga
The U20 SM-sarja ('Under-20 Finnish Championship Series') is the premier junior men's ice hockey league in Finland. It was previously known as the A-nuorten SM-sarja ('Junior A Finnish Championship Series') during 1945 to 1991 and the Nuorten SM-liiga ('Junior Finnish Championship League') during 1991 to 2020. The league was founded by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 1945 and a Finnish Champion in men's under-20 ice hockey has been named annually since the league's inaugural season – with the exception of the 2019–20 season, in which the playoffs were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the Official (ice hockey)#Referees, referee, or in some cases, the Official (ice hockey)#Linesmen, linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short handed, short-handed as opposed to full strength.
