Arthur Schott
Arthur Carl Victor Schott (27 February 1814 – 26 July 1875) was a German-American artist, naturalist and ethnographer. He was hired as a "special scientific collector" for the United States Boundary Commission, and participated in their survey of the new border between the United States and Mexico established after the Mexican–American War. Personal background Schott was born on 27 February 1814, in Stuttgart, Germany. He was the son of Christian Friedrich Albert Schott. Having finished at a ''Gymnasium'' (high school) and technical school in Stuttgart, Schott worked for a year as apprentice at the Royal Gardens in Stuttgart, after which he enrolled at the Institute of Agriculture at Hohenheim. The Isthmus of Panama, historically known as the Isthmus of Darien, is the narrow strip of land that lies between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, linking North and South America. The country of Panama is located on the isthmus, along with the Panama Canal. Like several isthmuses on Earth, as a relatively narrow land bridge between close seas, it is a location of great geopolitical and strategic importance. The isthmus is thought to have finally formed around 3 million years ago ( Ma), separating the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and causing the creation of the Gulf Stream, as first suggested in 1910 by Henry Fairfield Osborn. Yucatán Peninsula
The Yucatán Peninsula ( , ; ) is a large peninsula in southeast Mexico and adjacent portions of Belize and Guatemala. The peninsula extends towards the northeast, separating the Gulf of Mexico to the north and west of the peninsula from the Caribbean Sea to the east. The Yucatán Channel, between the northeastern corner of the peninsula and Cuba, connects the two bodies of water. The peninsula is approximately in area. Piedras Negras, Coahuila
Piedras Negras ( ) is a city and seat of the surrounding municipality of the same name in the Mexican state of Coahuila. It stands at the northeastern edge of Coahuila on the Mexico–United States border, across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass in the U.S. state of Texas. In the 2015 census the city had a population of 163,595 inhabitants, while the metropolitan area had a population of 245,155 inhabitants. The Piedras Negras and the Eagle Pass areas are connected by the Eagle Pass–Piedras Negras International Bridge, Camino Real International Bridge, and the Union Pacific International Railroad Bridge.
