Art Ward
Art Ward ''(né'' Arthur Downs Ward; June 14, 1922 – January 29, 2002) was an American music industry entrepreneur who, among other things was a co-owner of A & R Recording, Inc., where he had served a president. Ward was born in Maryland. Before his involvement with A & R Recording, he was Manager (from 1948 to 1953) of the Honey Dreamers, a popular vocal quintet, and the Arbors, a popular vocal quartet. He had also been director of public relations for Vitacoustic Records from September 1947 to March 1948 and a radio announcer for WBOC. Phil Ramone
Philip Rabinowitz (January 5, 1934March 30, 2013), better known as Phil Ramone, was a South African-born American recording engineer, record producer, violinist and composer, and co-founder of A & R recording studio. Its success led to expansion into several studios and a record production company. He was described by ''Billboard'' as "legendary", and the BBC as a "CD pioneer". Early life Ramone was born in South Africa and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. As a child in South Africa, Ramone was a musical prodigy, beginning to play the violin at age three and performing for Princess Elizabeth at age 10. In the late 1940s, he trained as a classical violinist at the Juilliard School, where one of his classmates was Phil Woods. Ramone opened his own recording studio before he was 20. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States on December 14, 1953. The Honey Dreamers
The Honey Dreamers was a singing group composed of 3 males and two females that appeared on radio and early television programs like CBS's ''Faye Emerson's Wonderful Town'' and ''The Ed Sullivan Show''. The group was formed at St. Olaf College in 1946 by Keith Textor and his roommate Dick Larson, who introduced Keith to Sylvia Mikelson. The Arbors
The Arbors were an American pop music, pop vocal group formed in 1964 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The members, two sets of brothers, met at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and began playing local shows in Michigan before moving to New York City. They recorded a single for Mercury Records which garnered little attention, but their next single, "A Symphony for Susan" (recorded for Carney Records), was reissued nationally on Columbia Records subsidiary, Date Records and hit #51 on the US chart; they followed with the singles "Just Let it Happen" and Graduation Day (The Four Freshmen song), Graduation Day (US #59). In 1968, they recorded the song "Valley of the Dolls", written for (but not actually used in) Valley of the Dolls (film), the movie of the same name. Mercury Records
Mercury Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group. It had significant success as an independent operation in the 1940s and 1950s. Smash Records and Fontana Records were sub labels of Mercury. Mercury Records released rock, funk, R&B, doo wop, soul music, blues, pop, rock and roll, and jazz records. WTGM (960 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a sports format. Licensed to Salisbury, Maryland, United States, the station is currently owned by iHeartMedia. WTGM is located on the Delmarva Peninsula, and that is shown on the Fox Sports station logo. History The station was originally WBOC on 1500 kHz, and began broadcasting in 1940.
