Art Monastery
The Art Monastery is an American non-profit organization based in Hawi, Hawai'i and founded in San Francisco, California (with previous locations in Calvi dell'Umbria, Labro, Caramanico Terme, and Lecce, Italy; and Springfield, Vermont). The Art Monastery Project was founded by American artistSuiko Betsy McCalland Christopher Fülling in 2007 with the purpose of converting an historic Italian monastery into an international art production center in cooperation with the community that hosts it. A pilot project was created at the Casale Santa Brigida in Calvi dell’Umbria now known as countryhouse Vista sull'oliveto. In 2010 the Art Monastery Project found residence in the monastery San Antonio of the medieval Italian hill town Labro, 1.5 hours north east of Rome. Labro, Lazio
Labro is a (municipality) in the Province of Rieti in the Italian region of Latium, located about northeast of Rome and about northwest of Rieti. It is a touristic destination and has been awarded with the orange flag. History Labro was founded between the 9th and 10th century; the first lord of Labro was sworn by Otto I in the year 956. Rai 1 () is an Italian free-to-air television channel owned and operated by state-owned public broadcaster RAI – Radiotelevisione italiana. It is the company's flagship television channel, and is known for broadcasting mainstream and generalist programming, usually aimed towards families, including '' TG1'' news bulletins, prime time drama, cinema and entertainment, and major breaking news, sports and special events. Lonely Planet is a travel guide book publisher. Founded in Australia in 1973, the company has printed over 150 million books. History Early years Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen Wheeler, Maureen and Tony Wheeler. In 1972, they embarked on an overland trip through Europe and Asia to Australia, following the route of the Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition. The company name originates from the Mondegreen, misheard "lovely planet" in a song written by Matthew Moore. Lonely Planet's first book, ''Across Asia on the Cheap'', had 94 pages; it was written by the couple in their home. The original 1973 print run consisted of stapled booklets with pale blue cardboard covers. Tony returned to Asia to write ''Across Asia on the Cheap: A Complete Guide to Making the Overland Trip'', published in 1975.
