''Art College 1994'' is a 2023 Chinese animated drama film directed by Liu Jian. Set on the campus of the Chinese Southern Academy of Arts in the early 1990s, featuring a group of art students caught between tradition and modernity, as love and friendships are intertwined with their artistic pursuits, ideals and ambitions. The film features the voices of Jia Zhangke, Zheng Dasheng, Xu Lei, film producer Wang Hongwei, musicians Peng Lei and Ren Ke, academic Xu Zhiyuan, and Shen Lihui. It is selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, where it had its world premiere on 24 February 2023. Liu Jian (director)
Liu Jian () is a Chinese animator and film director based in Nanjing. Having originally studied painting at Nanjing University of the Arts, he began making animations in 1995. In 2007 he founded Le-joy Animation Studio. His first full-length animation ''Piercing I'' premiered at the Holland Animation Film Festival. His second feature-length film ''Have a Nice Day'' premiered in competition at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival and won Best Animation Feature at the 54th Golden Horse Awards. 22nd New York Asian Film Festival
The 22nd New York Asian Film Festival was held in New York on 14 July with North American premiere of South Korean film ''Killing Romance'' by Lee Won-suk, who attended the screening in person. In the 22nd edition seventy eight titles were screened in person.
