''New Zealand Idol'', also known as ''NZ Idol'', was the New Zealand version of the ''Idol'' series which originated in the United Kingdom as ''Pop Idol''. New Zealand first saw the ''Idol'' format when TV2 aired '' American Idol 2'', which garnered impressive ratings. After ''Australian Idol'' also received good ratings in New Zealand, TVNZ decided to order the first season of ''NZ Idol'', which was broadcast on TV2. After the third season in 2006, TVNZ made a decision not to fund or broadcast a fourth season. NZ Idol was produced by South Pacific Pictures in association with Grundy Television and developed by Fremantle Media. Season one The show was hosted by TV presenter Dominic Bowden and the panel of judges consisted of Frankie Stevens, Fiona McDonald and Paul Ellis. Simon Robert Fuller (born 17 May 1960) is a British entrepreneur, artist manager, and film and television producer. He is the creator of the Idols (franchise), ''Idols'' TV format, including the British series ''Pop Idol'' and the American series ''American Idol''. TrueBliss were a New Zealand pop girl group formed in April 1999. The band were formed on the popular television show ''Popstars'', which aired on TVNZ's TV2 channel for nine weeks in the search for a new girl group. TrueBliss were the first ever group to be formed under the ''Popstars'' franchise, before the concept was sold to broadcasters in Australia (who formed the group Bardot in similar style), continental Europe, United Kingdom, United States and Latin America. Steve James Broad (born 29 January 1986) is a New Zealand singer and radio presenter, known for coming 5th on the second season of the New Zealand edition of ''The X Factor'' and 3rd on the second season of ''New Zealand Idol''. He was elected to the Invercargill City Council in 2023. Early life Broad was born in Invercargill in 1986, growing up on a sheep farm. As a teen he worked at H & J Smith. Boyband was a short-lived New Zealand pop vocal group created in September 2006 from the winners of The Edge radio station's promotion to manufacture New Zealand's own boy band. The Edge Radio station hosted auditions across the New Zealand to find the best males for the band.
