Aroania
Aroania () (also known as "Sopoto") is a village and a former Communities and Municipalities of Greece, municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Kalavryta, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 173.804 km2. The seat of administration was in the town of Psofida. The municipality is named after the village and the Aroania (mountain), mountain. Aroania (mountain)
Aroania (), also known as Helmos or Chelmos (Χελμός, from South Slavic , "summit"), is a mountain in Achaea, Peloponnese, Greece. At 2,355 m elevation, Aroania is the third highest mountain of the Peloponnese, after Taygetus and Kyllini, and the highest in Achaea. The largest town near the mountain is Kalavryta. The municipal unit Aroania took its name from the mountain. Geography Aroania is situated in southeastern Achaea, near the border with Corinthia. The slightly higher Kyllini mountain is about 15 km to its east, separated from Aroania by the valley of the river Olvios. The mountain Erymanthos is about 30 km to the west, across the valley of the river Vouraikos. The rivers Krios, Krathis and Vouraikos drain the mountain towards the Gulf of Corinth in the north. Achaea
Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek language, Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaḯa'', ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the modern regions of Greece, region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Seires
Seires (, before 1928: Βερσίτσι - ''Versitsi'') is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. It was named after the ancient town Seirae, that was part of Arcadian Azania. The community includes the villages Agioi Theodoroi, Agios Georgios, Krini and Thomaiika. Seires is situated at 940 m above sea level. Seires is 3 km west of Alestaina, 4 km northwest of Paos, 5 km east of Psofida and 23 km southwest of Kalavryta. Population History According to Pausanias, Seirae was an Arcadian city at the border between Cleitor and Psophis. The city was located near the Soron Forest and near the ruined settlement of Paos. Livartzi () is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. The community includes the villages Livadi and Livartzino. Livartzi is situated at 850 m above sea level, in the southeastern foothills of Mount Erymanthos. Lechouri
Lechouri () is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. The community includes the villages Kerasia and Selli. The village is situated at about above sea level, near the mountain Kallifoni, which is part of the Erymanthos range. It is northeast of Livartzi, south of Ano Vlasia, northwest of Kamenianoi and southwest of Kalavryta. Population History Historian G. Poretsano has two theories about the origin of the name Lechouri. Kalavryta () is a town and a municipality in the mountainous east-central part of the regional unit of Achaea, Greece. The town is located on the right bank of the river Vouraikos, south of Aigio, southeast of Patras and northwest of Tripoli, Greece, Tripoli. Agrampela, Achaea
Agrampela (, before 1928: Πορετζού - ''Poretzou'') is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. The community includes the village Platanitsa. It is situated in the southern foothills of the Mount Erymanthos. It is 2 km northwest of Plaka, Achaea, Plaka, 8 km east of Kalentzi and 26 km southwest of Kalavryta. Population History In the 1700 Venetian census, the village had 29 families. The village was known as Poretzou (Πορετζού) until 1928. Its inhabitants were known as Poretsanos, which became a surname for several people. Together with Platanitsa, it was a municipal district of Lampeia until 1912, when it became an independent community. The community was transferred from the Elis Prefecture to Achaea in 1974.
