Arnold Hamer
Arnold Hamer (8 December 1916 – 3 November 1993) was a first-class cricketer, who played for Yorkshire in 1938, and for Derbyshire between 1950 and 1960, scoring over 15,000 runs in first-class cricket. He also played as a footballer, playing eight games for York City in 1938. Early career Hamer was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. He began playing cricket at Yorkshire in 1937 in the second eleven. He played two first-class matches for Yorkshire in 1938 making three runs in total, and taking one wicket for 64 runs. He also played football for York City in 1938, where he made eight appearances as a left back. During World War II Hamer played occasional cricket games for Yorkshire teams. He was also a prolific scorer in the Bradford League for Pudsey St Lawrence which led Yorkshire president Tom Taylor to recommend him to Derbyshire. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field, at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails (small sticks) balanced on three stumps.
