Arne Haukvik
Arne Haukvik (12 February 1926 – 21 August 2002) was a Norwegian sports official for IL i BUL and politician for the Centre Party and the Pensioners Party. He is best known for founding the Bislett Games. As a politician, he was a four-term member of Oslo city council and a one-term member of the Parliament of Norway. Professional life and sports He was born in Sauherad as a son of farmers Halvor Haukvik (1894–1969) and Gunhild Røste (1898–1977). He was a brother of politician Olav Haukvik. The village he grew up in was Hjuksebø. He attended folk high school before finishing his secondary education in 1948, and taking commerce school in 1950. He also served in the Independent Norwegian Brigade Group in Germany. He worked as a bookseller from 1950 to 1952, then various jobs in the United States until 1955 before returning to bookselling. Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. The name is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Norsk Rikstoto
The Norsk Rikstoto (lit. 'Norwegian National Tote') is a foundation that supervises parimutuel betting on animal racing in Norway. It was established on 24 September 1982 by the Norwegian Trotting Association and the Norwegian Jockey Club to run a totalizator game named V6. Norsk Tipping administered most such games until 1993, when Norsk Rikstoto took over. In 1996 the foundation received responsibility, financial and administrative, for all such games. It also runs the television channel Rikstoto Direkte. Animal racing in Norway is limited to equine racing; there are eleven tracks for harness racing and one track, Øvrevoll Galoppbane, for gallop. The state provides a legal framework, but claims 3.7% of Norsk Rikstoto's gross annual turnover in fees. Norwegian Skiing Federation
The Norwegian Ski Federation ( no, Norges Skiforbund) is headquartered in Oslo, Norway and is the national representative of the International Ski Federation. Founded on 21 February 1908, it covers the skiing disciplines of alpine, cross-country, freestyle, Nordic combined, ski jumping, and snowboarding. The organization is also involved in the promotion of skiing in Norway, cooperating with the Association for the Promotion of Skiing. Oslo Marathon
The Oslo Marathon is an annual marathon that takes place at the end of September or the beginning of October. There are four distances; marathon, half-marathon, 10 and 3 km. Bislett Stadion
Bislett Stadium ( no, Bislett stadion) is a sports stadium in Oslo, Norway. Bislett is Norway's most well known sports arena internationally, with 15 speed skating world records and more than 50 track and field world records having been set here. The original stadium was demolished in 2004 and construction of a new stadium was completed by the summer of 2005. The New Bislett Stadium was designed by C.F. Møller Architects. History Bislett Stadium lies on the site of a 19th-century brick works, which was bought by the Municipality of Kristiania (Oslo) in 1898, and turned into a sports field in 1908. The merchant, speed skater, gymnast and sports organizer Martinus Lørdahl was instrumental in facilitating the construction of the first bleachers, begun in 1917 and completed in 1922 along with the new club house. The 10,000 metres or the 10,000-metre run is a common long-distance track running event. The event is part of the athletics programme at the Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships, and is common at championship level events. Ronald William Clarke, AO, MBE (21 February 1937 – 17 June 2015) was an Australian athlete, writer, and the Mayor of the Gold Coast from 2004 to 2012. He was one of the best-known middle- and long-distance runners in the 1960s, notable for setting seventeen world records.
