Armenian Environmental Network
Armenian Environmental Network (AEN), a project of Earth Island Institute (EII), is a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. United States, with an office in Yerevan, Armenia. History AEN was founded in 2007 as a response to a lack of environmental information available to Armenians in the Diaspora on environmental problems in Armenia. The Founder, Ursula Kazarian, and the Executive Director, Serda Ozbenian, are based in the United States. The Armenia office includes Armine Sargsyan, Armenia Office Director, and Armenuhi Nikoghosyan, Project Manager. Mission and objectives AEN serves a dual mission to: (1) Increase information sharing and distribution among Armenians in Armenia, the Armenian Diaspora and the wider conservation community; and (2) Facilitate partnerships through the responsible involvement of Diasporan and international resources to promote sustainable development in Armenia. Berd
Berd ( hy, Բերդ) is a town and urban municipal community in the Tavush Province of Armenia. The town is located to the west of the Tavush river, from Yerevan, surrounded by low mountains. Near the city are the ruins of the Tavush fortress (10th century) and the Nor Varagavank and Khoranashat monasteries (12th century). Other monasteries nearby include Shkhmuradi, Srveghi, and Kaptavank. Etymology ''Berd ( Armenian: բերդ)'' means "fortress" or castle. The small city was named ''Berd'' because the ruins of the Tavush castle were located in the outskirts of Berd. Armenia Tree Project
Armenia Tree Project (ATP) is a non-profit organization based in Watertown, Massachusetts, United States, and Yerevan, Armenia, founded in 1994 by Carolyn Mugar to promote Armenia's socioeconomic development through reforestation. Since its founding, the organization has planted more than 6.5 million trees in communities throughout Armenia. The organization has a full-time staff of 70 in Armenia. The Yerevan branch manages four state-of-the-art tree nurseries, two environmental education centers, and partners with families to create tree-based small business opportunities. Its major program initiatives include planting trees at urban and rural sites, environmental education and advocacy, community development and poverty reduction. Illegal logging is the harvest, transportation, purchase or sale of timber in violation of laws. Deforestation
Deforestation or forest clearance is the removal of a forest or stand of trees from land that is then land conversion, converted to non-forest use. Deforestation can involve conversion of forest land to farms, ranches, or urban area, urban use. The most concentrated deforestation occurs in tropical rainforests. About 31% of Earth's land surface is covered by forests at present. This is one-third less than the forest cover before the expansion of agriculture, a half of that loss occurring in the last century.
