Arkells
Arkells is a Canadian rock band, formed in Hamilton, Ontario. In 2006, they signed with Dine Alone Records, and have since signed with Universal Music Canada. They have released nine albums: '' Jackson Square'' (2008), '' Michigan Left'' (2011), ''High Noon'' (2014), ''Morning Report'' (2016), '' Rally Cry'' (2018), ''Blink Once'' (2021), ''Blink Twice'' (2022), ''Laundry Pile'' (2023) and ''Disco Loadout, Volume 1'' (2024). Michigan Left (album)
''Michigan Left'' is the second full-length album by Arkells. It was announced on August 15, 2011, that the album would be released on October 18, 2011. The album cover and track list were also debuted on the band's website the same day. "Whistleblower", the first single, was premiered on July 30, 2011, and was released for purchase on iTunes July 5. Jackson Square (album)
''Jackson Square'' is the first full-length album by Arkells. It is their first non-digital release with Dine Alone Records. The album contains updated versions of the 5 songs found on the ''Deadlines'' EP along with 7 additional songs. The album is named after Lloyd D. Jackson Square, a shopping mall in the band's hometown of Hamilton, Ontario. The first single, "Oh, the Boss Is Coming!" was released on October 21, 2008. Lead singer Max Kerman describes Jackson Square as "Road-tested, energetic and soulful." On February 24, 2009, the band set up a webpage for fans to vote for the second single between "Pullin' Punches", "John Lennon" and "The Ballad of Hugo Chavez". High Noon (Arkells Album)
''High Noon'' is the third full-length studio album by Canadian rock band Arkells. It was announced on May 13, 2014, that the album would be released on August 5, 2014. The album sold 5,200 copies in its first week and debuted at #3 on the Canadian Albums Chart. It is the band's highest position on that chart in their history. By September 2015, ''High Noon'' had sold over 40,000 copies and was certified a Gold Record. The album art features an F-117 Knighthawk. The Juno Awards (stylized as JUNOS), or simply known as the Junos, are awards presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to recognize outstanding achievements in Canada's music industry. The CASBY Awards were a Canadian awards ceremony for independent and alternative music, presented annually by Toronto, Ontario radio station CFNY, currently branded as 102.1 The Edge. CASBY is an acronym for Canadian Artists Selected By You. The awards were first presented in 1981 under the name U-Knows, a pun on Canada's mainstream Juno Awards. The concept was developed by David Marsden, the program director at CFNY at the time, when he heard the Juno nominations announced on CBC Radio, and included was Long John Baldry — who was newly resident in Canada but had already been in the music business for almost 20 years — as most promising vocalist. The Juno Awards of 2012 honoured Canadian music industry achievements in the latter part of 2010 and in most of 2011. The awards were presented in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada during the weekend of 31 March and 1 April 2012. A week of related events began on 26 March 2012. Blue Rodeo was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Broadcast executive Gary Slaight was designated the 2012 recipient of the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award. Bidding Ottawa's bid for the awards became known in March 2011 when it was revealed the province of Ontario allocated $100,000 in funding towards the city's 2012 Juno Awards bid.
