Morski Związkowy Klub Sportowy Arka Gdynia () is a professional football club based in Gdynia, Poland, that plays in the Ekstraklasa after winning the 2024–25 I liga. The club was founded as Klub Sportowy Gdynia in 1929. History The history of Arka dates back to 1929, when a group of workers of the Port of Gdynia founded ''Klub Sportowy (Sports Club) Gdynia'' (abbreviated KS Gdynia). In 1932, a new stadium of KS was opened at ''Polanka Redłowska''. This location was used by the club until 2000. In 1934, ''Klub Sportowy Kotwica'' (Sports Club Anchor) was registered. Both team existed until 1939. In 1949, ''Rybacki Klub Sportowy ("Fishermen Sports Club") MIR'' was formed. Three years later, its name was changed to ''Klub Sportowy Kolejarz-Arka Gdynia''. Stadion GOSiR
Stadion Miejski (), also known as Stadion GOSiR, is a football stadium in Gdynia, Poland. It is the home ground of Arka, but has also hosted several international games, including those of the Polish youth national team. The stadium holds 15,139 people and replaced an obsolete ground by the same name that stood here since 1964. In 2017 Municipal Stadium was one of the host stadiums of UEFA European Under-21 Championship and will host several matches of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup including the third place match. Construction Designed by Warsaw-based firm SPAK, Gdynia was able to improve stadium standards, though the structure also earned some criticism as the roof only partially covers the seating area and was constructed using steel supports, thus creating obstructed view seating in some sections. 1982 World Cup
The 1982 FIFA World Cup was the 12th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Spain from 13 June to 11 July 1982. The tournament was won by Italy, who defeated West Germany 3–1 in the final held in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the capital, Madrid. Pomerania ( ; ; ; ) is a historical region on the southern shore of the Baltic Sea in Central Europe, split between Poland and Germany. II Liga
II liga (Druga liga, ), currently named Betclic II liga due to its sponsorship by Betclic, is a Polish football league that sits at the third tier of the Polish football league system. Until the end of the 2007–08 season, ''II Liga'' referred to a league at the 2nd tier, although this changed with the formation of the Ekstraklasa as the top level league in Poland. Currently, II liga is below I liga and above III liga. Since the 2014–15 season, the league consists of a single division, unlike previous seasons when it was divided into two groups, ''West'' and ''East''. The league consists of 18 teams. The top two finishers are rewarded with automatic promotion to the I liga, while the teams ranked third to sixth face each other in promotion play-offs. Football Junior Championships of Poland Under-19 () is a competition which started in the summer of 1936. 1936 The first, historic Under-19 tournament for the title of the Football Junior Championships of Poland took place in the town of Sieraków, in mid-August 1936. Invited were junior champions of all 12 regional districts of Polish Football Association (PZPN), but for unknown reasons three teams did not show up. These were champions of Wilno, Volhynia and Lublin. Thus, there were 9 teams, but this uneven number was further reduced to 8, after Gryf Toruń (champion of Pomerania) beat Brygada Częstochowa (champion of Zagłębie Dąbrowskie) 5-1 (3-0). The 2018 Polish Super Cup was the 28th Polish Super Cup, an annual Polish football match played between the reigning winners of the Ekstraklasa and Polish Cup. It was held on 14 July 2018 between the 2017–18 Ekstraklasa and 2017–18 Polish Cup winners Legia Warsaw and the 2017–18 Polish Cup runners-up Arka Gdynia at Legia's home, the Stadion Wojska Polskiego in Warsaw. Arka played its second Super Cup match, while Legia played its 13th and sixth consecutive Super Cup. 2020–21 Polish Cup
The 2020–21 Polish Cup was the 67th season of the annual Polish football knockout tournament. It began on 8 August 2020 with the first matches of the preliminary round and ended with the final on 2 May 2021 at Arena Lublin. The 2020–21 edition of the Polish Cup was sponsored by Fortuna, making the official name Fortuna Puchar Polski. Winners of the competition qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2021–22 UEFA Europa Conference League. 2015–16 I Liga
The 2015–16 I liga is the 8th season of the Polish I liga under its current title, and the 68th season of the second highest division in the Polish football league system since its establishment in 1949. The league is operated by the Polish Football Association (PZPN). The league is contested by 18 teams. The regular season was played in a round-robin tournament. The season began on 1 August 2015, and concluded on 6 June 2016. After the 19th matchday the league will be on winter break between 6 December 2015 and 3 March 2016. According to the competition rules, all clubs are required to field at least one youth player (born in 1995 or later and Polish or trained in Poland) in every game (except for the times when the only youth player on the roster is sent off or unable to continue playing). Polish Super Cup
The Polish Super Cup (, ) is an annually held match between the champions of the Ekstraklasa and the Polish Cup winners or, if the Ekstraklasa champions also win the Polish Cup, the Cup's runners-up. As of 2024, the Polish Super Cup has been played 34 times. The most successful club is Lech Poznań, who won 6 times. The most common participant has been Legia Warsaw, as they have played sixteen final games and lost their eight following finals between 2012 and 2021. Unlike the Polish Cup, there is no extra time played in the competition, therefore in case of a draw after regular time, the match goes straight into a penalty shoot-out.
