Arizona Wildcats Baseball
The Arizona Wildcats baseball team is the intercollegiate men's baseball program representing the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, United States. They compete in the Big 12 Conference (Big 12) of NCAA Division I. Arizona has won four college baseball national championships (1976 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 1976, 1980 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 1980, 1986 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 1986 and 2012 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, 2012), the first three under Jerry Kindall and the most recent under Andy Lopez. Big 12 Conference
The Big 12 Conference is a collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference in the United States. It consists of 16 full-member universities (3 private universities and 13 public universities) in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia. 1963 NCAA University Division Baseball Tournament
The 1963 NCAA University Division baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1963 NCAA University Division baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its seventeenth year. Eight regional districts sent representatives to the College World Series with preliminary rounds within each district serving to determine each representative. These events would later become known as regionals. Each district had its own format for selecting teams, resulting in 23 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship is held each year from May through June and features 64 college baseball teams in the United States, culminating in the eight-team Men's College World Series (MCWS) at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. The tournament is unique in that it features four tiers of competition, alternating between double-elimination brackets and best-of-three series. In fact, throughout the entire 64-team tournament, a team can lose a total of four games and still be crowned champions. 1950 College World Series
The College World Series was the fourth NCAA-sanctioned baseball tournament that determined a national champion. The tournament was held as the conclusion of the 1950 NCAA baseball season and was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska from June 15 to June 23. It was the first College World Series to be held at the stadium, which hosted the event through 2010. The tournament's champion was the Texas Longhorns, coached by Bibb Falk. The Most Outstanding Player was Ray VanCleef of Rutgers. The championship was the second consecutive for the Longhorns. Jay Johnson (baseball Coach)
Jay Bradley Johnson (born April 20, 1977) is an American college baseball coach and former second baseman, who is the current head baseball coach of the LSU Tigers. He played college baseball at Shasta from 1997 to 1998 before transferring to Point Loma Nazarene. He then served as the head coach of the Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions (2005), Nevada (2014–2015) and the Arizona Wildcats (2016–2021). Education Born and raised in Oroville, California, Johnson graduated from Oroville High School in 1995 and began his college baseball career at Shasta College, a junior college in Redding, California, in 1997. After two years at Shasta, Johnson transferred to Point Loma Nazarene in the 1998–99 school year to complete his college career. Jerry Stitt
Jerry Lewis Stitt (born November 29, 1946) is a retired American baseball coach, predominately in college baseball. Regarded as one of the top hitting coaches of his era, Stitt spent 18 seasons as an assistant coach to Jerry Kindall at the University of Arizona. During his time as an assistant he mentored many future MLB players such as J. T. Snow, Chip Hale, Kenny Lofton and Terry Francona among others, and helped lead the Wildcats to two College World Series championships (1980 and 1986). Upon Jerry Kindall's retirement in July 1996, Stitt was named the head coach for the Arizona Wildcats; he coached the team for five seasons. Frank Sancet
Francisco Sancet (August 24, 1907 - March 22, 1985) was a baseball coach and catcher. He served as the head baseball coach at the University of Arizona from 1950 to 1972, compiling a record of 831–275–10. He played college baseball for Phoenix College from 1926 to 1927 before transferring to Arizona where he played for coach Pop McKale from 1928 to 1929 before playing professionally. Career Sancet played professional baseball in minor league baseball for the Tampa Smokers and the Tucson Cowboys. He coached the Arizona Wildcats baseball team to an 831–275–10 win–loss record in 23 seasons, from 1950 through 1972. 2012 College World Series
The 2012 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, June 1, 2012, as part of the 2012 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 team double elimination tournament concluded with the 2012 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, starting on June 15 and ending on June 25. North Dakota State Bison Baseball
The North Dakota State Bison baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of North Dakota State Bison in Fargo, North Dakota, United States. The program's first season was in 1909, and it has been a member of the NCAA Division I Summit League since the start of the 2008 season.
