Arizona Senate
The Arizona State Senate is part of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature of the US state of Arizona. The Senate consists of 30 members each representing an average of 219,859 constituents (2009 figures). Members serve two-year terms with term limits that limit Senators to four terms for a total of eight years. Members of the Republican Party are currently the majority in the Senate. There is currently 16 women serving in the Senate after Raquel Terán was appointed, making it the first time a majority of the body was composed of female members. As with the Arizona House of Representatives, members to the Senate are elected from the same legislative districts as House members, however one Senator represents the constituency, while for the House there are two Representatives per district. 55th Arizona State Legislature
The 55th Arizona State Legislature, consisting of the Arizona Senate and the Arizona House of Representatives, is the current legislative session constituted in Phoenix on January 11, 2021, during the second two years of Doug Ducey's second full term in office. Both the Senate and the House membership remained constant at 30 and 60, respectively. In the November 2020 Senate election, Democrats gained one seat, leaving the Republicans with a 16–14 majority. Republicans maintained an unchanged 31–29 majority in the House after the November 2020 House election. Sessions The Legislature met in its first regular session at the State Capitol in Phoenix. Term Limits
A term limit is a legal restriction that limits the number of terms an officeholder may serve in a particular elected office. When term limits are found in presidential and semi-presidential systems they act as a method of curbing the potential for monopoly, where a leader effectively becomes " president for life". Washington State Senate
The Washington State Senate is the upper house of the Washington State Legislature. The body consists of 49 members, each representing a district with a population of nearly 160,000.
