Aristos Kasmiroglou
Aristos Kasmiroglou () is a Greek jurist and the former Civil Administrator of Mount Athos, the appointed civil head of government of the monastic community of Mount Athos, from 2001 to 2004 and again from 2010 until 2018. Biography Aristos Kasmiroglou was born in Athens, from parents who migrated from Asia Minor to Greece. He is a graduate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is a retired Director of the Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP) and member of the Friends of Mount Athos association. In 1996, he assumed the duties of deputy civil governor of the autonomous Monastic State of Mount Athos. From 1999 to 2004, he served as director of the radio station of the Church of Greece. Greece has over 1,000 radio stations operating with a certificate of temporary legality. Most broadcast on the FM band; the AM band has been almost entirely abandoned by broadcasters, with the exception of State-run media and a few other stations. In March 2001, the Greek government closed approximately 60 of 90+ FM stations operating in the Athens area, citing potential interference to frequencies to be used by the new Athens International Airport. There are some who believe that the government shut down these stations as a political favor to powerful publishing and media groups, whose stations, for the most part, remained on the air; others argued that the licensing process was legally inconsistent. The Greek broadcast licensing process came under legal scrutiny as a result, and in 2002, eight of the closed stations reopened. The Friends of Mount Athos (FoMA) is a society formed in 1990 by people who shared a common interest for the monasteries of Mount Athos. It is a registered charity in the United Kingdom (Registered Charity No. 1047287). People Timothy Ware, Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia, was the President of the society. Graham Speake, one of the founders, is the chairman of the society. Among its members are the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and King Charles III, of the United Kingdom, who is the royal patron of the society.
