Ario Costa
Ario Costa (born 26 September 1961) is an Italian retired basketball player of Basket Brescia, Victoria Libertas Pesaro and Fabriano Basket, and the current president of Victoria Libertas Pesaro since 2013. Professional career Player career Ario Costa started his professional career with Basket Brescia in 1977. After many years in Brescia he went to Scavolini Pesaro where he became immediately a symbol for the team. With Pesaro he won two Italian League ''Scudetti'', the first in 1988 and the other in 1990, and two Italian Cups, in 1985 and 1992. He retired from the parquet at the end of the 90s. The new role Ario Costa has been engaged as general manager, at first in Pesaro, and later with Fabriano Basket. In 2006 he should go to Scafati, but disagreements with the president of the Campania team, he broke the contract prematurely. Lega Basket Serie A
The Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) is a professional men's club (sport), club basketball list of basketball leagues, league that has been organised in Italy since 1920. Serie A is organised by Lega Basket, which is regulated by the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP). It is the highest-tier level of the Italian basketball league system, Italian league system. Pesaro
Pesaro (; ) is a (municipality) in the Italy, Italian region of Marche, capital of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, on the Adriatic Sea. According to the 2011 census, its population was 95,011, making it the second most populous city in the Marche, after Ancona. Pesaro was dubbed the "Cycling City" () by the Italian environmentalist association Legambiente in recognition of its extensive network of bicycle paths and promotion of cycling. Fulgor Libertas Forlì
Fulgor Libertas Forlì was an Italian professional basketball team based in Forlì, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The club ceased operating in January 2015 due to financial problems. History Fulgor Forlì was founded in 1949 by Stefano Cozzi. It reached the national Serie C by the 1954-55 season, returning to the Promozione in 1957. A promotion to the Serie D in 1969-70 was followed by others to the Serie C2 (1979–80), Serie C1 (1982–83), Serie B2 (1985–86). Returning to the Serie C1, they stayed there until 1992-93 where they moved back to Serie B2, reaching the Serie B1 in June 2000. 2008–09 Lega Basket Serie A
The 2008–09 Lega Basket Serie A season, known as the Serie A TIM for sponsorship reasons, was the 87th season of the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), the top tier professional basketball league division of the Italian basketball league system. The regular season ran from September 30, 2007, to April 27, 2008, 16 teams played each other team in home and away matches. At the end of the regular season, the top 8 teams advanced to the championship play-off whilst the lowest ranked teams, GMAC Bologna and Snaidero Udine, were relegated to the Legadue. The original number of teams was 18, but on September 20, 2008, the Federal Council of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) discovered administrative irregularities committed by Basket Napoli and UPEA Capo d'Orlando and decided to deny them professional licenses. S.S. Basket Napoli was an Italian professional basketball club that was based in Naples, Campania. The club's full name was Società Sportiva Basket Napoli. The team ceased activities in 2009. History The team was playing in the second division LegaDue as Serapide Pozzuoli when it was moved to Naples and came under the ownership of Mario Maione. After the 2001–2002 season, the club was promoted to the first division Serie A after winning the LegaDue. Basket Napoli took part in the ULEB Cup 2004-05, in the 2006-07 EuroLeague and won the Italian Cup in 2006. Virtus Roma
Virtus Roma 1960, commonly known as Virtus Roma, is an Italian professional basketball club based in Rome, Lazio. The club, named Pallacanestro Virtus Roma competed in the first division of Italian basketball, the LBA, for decades until 2020, when it went bankrupt. In 2021 the club was refounded. It was formerly a major side in Europe, winning the 1983–84 FIBA European Champions Cup (EuroLeague), and at one time being one of only 13 clubs to hold a EuroLeague A license. However, its standing later waned, and Virtus became less competitive in both Europe and the domestic LBA - which it had won in 1983 – before being voluntarily relegated to the Italian second division in July 2015.
