Ariel Cañete
Ariel Cañete (born 7 February 1975) is an Argentine professional golfer. Career Cañete was born in Santa Teresita, Buenos Aires. He turned professional in 1995. Having competed on the local Argentine Tour, and the Tour de las Américas earlier in his career, in 2002 Cañete began playing on the Challenge Tour, Europe's second tier development tour. He finished high enough in the end of season rankings in 2005 to gain a place on the main European Tour. He finished the 2006 season in 143rd position on the Order of Merit, which was not enough to secure full playing rights for 2007. Having played in two Challenge Tour events in Latin America, he was given an invite to the European Tour's Joburg Open, and he made the most of the opportunity by claiming the title, and with it a two-year exemption on the tour. Santa Teresita, Buenos Aires
Santa Teresita is a city in the seaside La Costa Partido of the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. History and overview Established in 1946, the town owed its initial growth to the Santa Teresita Development Association led by José Milano, who successfully lobbied provincial authorities for paved roads, a telephone exchange, power plant, and clinic (all of which had been opened by 1949). A curupay wooden pier was built by the association in 1947, and in 1972, extended to 200 m (656 ft)though damage from a 1983 storm later led to its rebuilding in concrete. Andrew McLardy
Andrew Ronald McLardy (born 20 January 1974) is a South African professional golfer. McLardy was born in Triangle, Zimbabwe to Scottish parents. He had a successful amateur career, including representing South Africa twice in the Eisenhower Trophy, before turning professional in 1997. He joined the Southern Africa Tour, now the Sunshine Tour, where he has accumulated five wins. In 1998, McLardy qualified for the European Tour via qualifying school. He finished inside the top 100 on the Order of Merit in both his first two seasons, before he moved to the United States to try his hand at the PGA Tour. He finished tied for fifth at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in December 2000, to earn a card for the 2001 season. However, he was largely unsuccessful during his rookie season, and spent 2002 and 2003 on the second tier Nationwide Tour. 1994 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1994 Eisenhower Trophy took place 6 to 9 October on the Albatros course at Le Golf National and on La Vallée course at La Boulie near Versailles, France. It was the 19th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 45 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Initially each team played one round on each of the two courses. The leading 24 teams then played two further rounds at Le Golf National while the remaining teams played two rounds at La Boulie. The United States won the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time since 1982, finishing 11 strokes ahead of the silver medalists, Great Britain and Ireland. Sweden took the bronze medal with Australia in fourth place. Allen Doyle had the lowest individual score, 10-under-par 277, four strokes better than Warren Bennett. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. From 2002 the teams have been three players with two counting. The 2004, 2010 and 2012 championships were reduced to 54 holes because of bad weather. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Later the venue rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom. It is organised by the R&A. The Open is one of the four men's major golf tournaments, the others being the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. The Center Open, or Abierto del Centro, is one of the major regional open golf tournaments in Argentina. Founded in 1927, it has always been held at the Córdoba Golf Club in Córdoba. In 2001, Ángel Cabrera set the course record of 60 in the final round, and also equalled the tournament record aggregate score of 270, set by Ángel Franco in 1992.
