Ari Hjelm
Ari-Juhani Hjelm (born 24 February 1962) is a Finnish football coach and former player. He was the head coach of home-town club Tampere United in Finland's Veikkausliiga. A forward, Hjelm played in the Bundesliga for Stuttgarter Kickers in the 1988–89 season. He also played in the 2. Bundesliga for Kickers (1989–90) and FC St. Pauli (1992–94). In Finland, Hjelm represented FC Ilves (1981–88 and 1990–94) and HJK Helsinki (1995–96). Hjelm earned 100 caps for the Finland national team. He held the record for most caps for Finland a decade, before being overtaken by Jari Litmanen in 2006. He is also the fifth highest scorer for Finland with 20 goals. Hjelm is an honorary captain of the Finnish national team. His son Jonne Hjelm is a player for FC Ilves. Finnish League Cup
The Finnish League Cup was a knock-out football competition contested annually during the pre-season in winter by teams from Veikkausliiga. The league cup was abolished after the 2016 tournament and replaced with the Finnish Cup group stage starting from the 2017 season. League cup will be played again in spring of 2022. The 2001 season was the 71st completed season of Finnish Football League Championship, known as the Veikkausliiga. At the same time it was the 12th season of the Veikkausliiga. Overview The Veikkausliiga is administered by the Finnish Football Association and the competition's 2001 season was contested by 12 teams. Tampere United won the championship and qualified for the 2002–03 UEFA Champions League qualification round, while the second and third placed teams qualified for the first qualification round of the 2002–03 UEFA Cup. The fourth placed team qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup 2002, while the two lowest placed teams of the competition, FC Jokerit and RoPS Rovaniemi were relegated to the Ykkönen. In men's association football, a cap is traditionally awarded in international football to a player making an official match appearance for their national team. In total, over 600 players have played in 100 or more international matches. The record is held jointly by Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, who both made their 196th appearance in 2022. The record was previously held by Soh Chin Ann of Malaysia, with 195 of his 222 appearances being ratified as official. The discrepancy is due to FIFA, the international football governing body, not recognising matches such as those within the Olympic Games and those not categorised as 'A' matches.
