Arekere Lake
Arekere Lake is situated in the Arekere - Hulimavu area of the city of Bangalore. Originally spread over an area of approximately 37 acres, the lake is bounded on the west by Bannerghatta Road, on the north by BDA Eighty Feet Road, on the east by Shantinikethan Layout and on the south by Hulimavu Main Road. According to the BBMP website, the perimeter of the lake is about . It was possibly a manmade water reservoir created approximately 100 years ago. Arekere is a residential area on Bannerghatta Road in South Bangalore. The name Arekere (''Are'': Half, ''Kere'': lake) originates from a water reservoir in the area. Hulimavu
Hulimavu is a locality in the south of Bangalore under the Bommanahalli Zone of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). History Hulimavu was previously known as Amarapura, which came under the administration of Saarakeya (present day: Sarakki). Apparently ''Amarapura'' was derived from the word "Amra" or "Amru" which translates to Mango or "Sourness". Over years the name has evolved to its present name Hulimavu which in Kannada literally means "Sour mango". The then ruler of Saarakeya (17th century) is believed to have built the Kodandarama Swami Temple in Hulimavu for the well being of its citizens. Around 1600AD the temple was renovated with the installation of idols of Seeta, Lakshmana and Anjenaya Swami. Sri Kodandarama Swami Bramhostava is celebrated every year. Bannerghatta Road ( ಬನ್ನೇರುಘಟ್ಟ ರಸ್ತೆ, commonly known as BG Road) is an State highways in India, Indian State Highway in Karnataka.
