Ardee Community School
Ardee Community School, also known as St Killian's or ACS, is a Community school (Ireland), community school located in Ardee, County Louth, Ireland. It is a co-educational school where pupils of all religious denominations study together. As is the case with all community schools, a board of management, answerable to the school's trustees and to the Minister for Education, manages the school. The board is composed of two teacher representatives, two parent representatives, six nominees from the trustees and the principal, who is secretary to the board of management. As of 7 October 2015, the school has approximately 738 students enrolled in its classes. An extension to the school was completed in 2017 delivering a 2-storey extension along with a new car park. Ardee
Ardee (; , ) is a town and townland in County Louth, Ireland. It is located at the intersection of the N2, N52, and N33 roads. The town shows evidence of development from the thirteenth century onward but as a result of the continued development of the town since then much of the fabric of the medieval town has been removed. Ardee is on the banks of the River Dee and is equidistant between the county's two biggest towns - approximately 20 km (12 mi) from Dundalk and Drogheda, while it is also close to Slane and Carrickmacross. In the 20 years between the 1996 and 2016 census, the population of Ardee increased by approximately 30%, from 3,791 to 4,928 inhabitants. Mairead McGuinness (born 13 June 1959) is an Irish politician serving as the European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union since October 2020. Simon Harris (born 17 October 1986) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science since June 2020. Ross Leon Gaynor (born 9 September 1987) from Ardee, County Louth is an Irish professional footballer who played in the Football League for Millwall. Club career Gaynor began his career playing juvenile football in Ardee with Square United and Ardee Celtic before moving on to Belvedere . Gaynor played for the Dundalk Schoolboys League side. A community school () in the Republic of Ireland is a type of secondary school funded individually and directly by the state. Community and comprehensive schools were established in the 1960s to provide a broad curriculum for all the young people in a community. Both academic and vocational programmes are available and facilities are broader than at voluntary or vocational schools.
