Archery At The 2023 European Games
At the 2023 European Games in Kraków, eight events of archery were contested, all in a target archery format. Five events were held with Recurve bow, recurve bows, mirroring the five Archery at the 2024 Summer Olympics, 2024 Olympic events, and three events with Compound bow, compound bows, which are no longer used in Olympic competition, but are used in Paralympic competition. Three of the events in recurve are also used as a Continental Qualification Tournament for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Qualification Summary World Archery Europe announced 118 of the 128 archers to be invited on 10 May 2023, following the conclusion of the final qualification events at Lilleshall in England. At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, eight events of archery were contested, all in the target archery format. Five events were held with Recurve bow, recurve bows and three with Compound bow, compound bows. The events in recurve are also used as Continental Qualification Tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Qualification The World Archery Europe, WAE Executive Board approved the qualification system in November 2017. A total of 128 athletes qualified for the games, 96 in recurve and 32 in compound. Mauro Nespoli
Mauro Nespoli (born 22 November 1987, in Voghera) is an Italian archer. He won individual silver at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics and was a member of the Italian teams that won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics and silver at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Biography Nespoli was born in Voghera (Province of Pavia), the place where he has always lived. He first saw some archers when he was nine, while he was spending his holidays in Aprica (Sondrio). His coach is Luciano Malovini, who was an archer of the Paralympic Italian National Team. In spite of his hard training and attending archery events, Nespoli could achieve good marks at school. He got his graduation Diploma in 2006 and he is now attending university, in Pavia, studying Computer Engineering. Lisa Barbelin (born 10 April 2000) is a French archer, who won the recurve events at the 2021 European Archery Championships, and 2022 European Indoor Archery Championships. She has previously won multiple medals at the World Youth Archery Championships, and won bronze medals in events at the 2019 and 2022 Archery World Cups. In June 2021 she was the world's number one ranked competitor. Barbelin competed in the women’s individual event at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, winning the bronze medal in the latter. Career Barbelin has trained at the ''Société de tir de Dieuze'' in Dieuze, Moselle, and ' in Auvergne. She competed at the 2017 European Junior Archery Cup, finishing third in the individual event in Marathon, Greece, and second in the individual and team events in Poreč, Croatia. Bryony Michaela Pitman (born 13 March 1997) is a British archer competing in women's recurve events. She won the gold medal in the women's recurve team event at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus. Earlier in 2019, she won the bronze medal in the women's team recurve event at the World Archery Championships held in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. Early life and education Pitman grew up in Shoreham-by-Sea. Her father Gary also arched in his youth. At age 11, she joined Worthing Archery Club. Pitman attended Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Hove. Career She won two gold medals at the 2023 European Games in Kraków, Poland: one in the women's recurve individual event and a second in the women's recurve team event.
