Archery At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Individual
The women's individual archery event at the 2008 Summer Olympics was part of the archery programme. It took place at the Olympic Green Archery Field. Ranking Round was on 9 August 2008. First and second elimination rounds took place on 12 August, and eights, quarterfinal, semifinals and medals matches were on 14 August. All archery was done at a range of 70 metres, with targets 1.22 metres in diameter. Park Sung-hyun tried to defend her Olympic Gold Medal won in Athens, along with British Alison Williamson, winner of the bronze medal in 2004. 64 archers from 37 countries qualified for the event at the Beijing Olympics. The 44th Outdoor Archery World championship, held in Leipzig, Germany, plus 5 continental qualification tournaments and a Final World Qualification Tournament selected 61 slots for the event, along with 3 Tripartite Commission Invitations. Olympic Green Archery Field
The Olympic Green Archery Field () was one of nine temporary venues for the 2008 Summer Olympics. It hosted the Archery at the 2008 Summer Olympics, archery events. The field occupied 9.22 hectares and had a seating capacity of 5,000. After the games it was dismantled. Khatuna Narimanidze ( ka, ხათუნა ნარიმანიძე; born 2 February 1974) is an athlete from Georgia. She competes in archery. 2004 Summer Olympics Narimanidze represented Georgia at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 41st in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 620. In the first round of elimination, she faced 24th-ranked Almudena Gallardo of Spain. Joo Hyun-jung (; , born 3 May 1982) is a professional former world number one archer from South Korea. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Joo finished her ranking round with a total of 664 points, nine points behind ranking leader Park Sung-hyun. This gave her the third seed for the final competition bracket in which she faced Sigrid Romero in the first round, beating the archer from Colombia 108–98. In the second round, Joo was too strong for Natalia Valeeva (110–108) and via Bérengère Schuh (109–104) in the third round she advanced to the quarter-finals. There she faced 27th seed, but local Chinese favourite Zhang Juanjuan who won the confrontation with 106–101. Kim Soo-Nyung
Kim Soo-nyung (born April 5, 1971, in Chungcheongbuk-do) is a former member of the South Korean Olympic archery team in 1988, 1992, and 2000. She has earned a total of four gold medals at the Olympics, one for the individual event in 1988 and three for the team event in 1988, 1992 and 2000. She won a further silver medal in 1992 and a bronze in 2000, both for the individual events. She retired after the 1992 Olympics to marry and raise two children, resuming her training in 1999, in the lead up to the 2000 Summer Olympics. She competed at the 1990 Asian Games winning a gold medal in the team event and a bronze in the individual. She also won two consecutive individual and team world championships in 1989 and 1991.
