Escort carriers, amphibious warfare vessels, and some mine warfare vessels were also originally classed as auxiliaries but were later given their own hull classification symbols outside the auxiliary series (which all begin with an 'A'). Links to these and other list articles of similar ships can be found throughout this article. Accounting Principles Board
The Accounting Principles Board (APB) is the former authoritative body of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). It was created by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1959 and issued pronouncements on accounting principles until 1973, when it was replaced by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). The APB was disbanded in the hopes that the smaller, fully independent FASB could more effectively create accounting standards. The APB and the related Securities Exchange Commission were unable to operate completely independently of the U.S. government. According to the SEC, "the overall record of the APB was a reasonably good one, but it seems likely that a smaller full-time body directly in control of its research holds promise of more success". Among others, Abraham Briloff was critical of some actions of the Accounting Principles Board. In response to APB 17, Briloff referred to the APB as the "Accounting Pragmatics Board".Br ... Ann Arbor Station
Ann Arbor station is a train station in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States that is served by Amtrak's ''Wolverine'', which runs three times daily in each direction between Chicago, Illinois and Pontiac, Michigan, via Detroit. History The present-day station was built in 1983, as a replacement for the original 1877 Michigan Central Railroad-built depot, which the new station directly neighbors. The old depot was sold in 1969 to the C.A. Muer Corporation, by its original owner the Penn Central Transportation Company. It has since been renovated into the "Gandy Dancer" seafood restaurant, which opened in 1970. At the time of the sale the railroad believed it was likely they would soon be ceasing passenger operations outside of the Northeast Corridor, which would have rendered their ownership of the station unnecessary, so, when approached with an offer by the C.A. Muer Corporation to buy it, they accepted. Two years later, however, Amtrak was launched, keeping passenger service ... ARB (martial Art)
ARB (; ; 'Army Hand-to-Hand Combat') is a Soviet Union, Soviet martial art which was developed for the military in the late 1970s and tested with the Soviet Airborne Troops, utilising both striking and grappling techniques with an emphasis on stand-up fighting and use of throw (martial arts), throws to take an opponent down quickly. It incorporated many functional elements from an arsenal of army-style hand-to-hand combat and martial arts styles from around the world, and has been intended for use in a combat environment. It is a relatively modern and quickly developing style of martial arts, and, as a combat sport, it has become popular for its full-contact sparring while offering a relatively modest risk of injury. Contrary to Combat Sambo contests, which are being held at a standard wrestling mat, ARB contests require a 10×10 m (33×33 ft) tatami-like squared area. History ARB's origin as a Army, military-applied martial art dates back to 1979 when the city of Kaunas ... Arbitrary Unit
In science and technology, an arbitrary unit (abbreviated arb. unit, '' see below'') or procedure defined unit (p.d.u.) is a relative unit of measurement to show the ratio of amount of substance, intensity, or other quantities, to a predetermined reference measurement. The reference measurement is typically defined by the local laboratories or dependent on individual measurement apparatus. It is therefore impossible to compare "1 arb. unit" by one measurer and "1000 arb. unit" by another measurer without detailed prior knowledge on how the respective "arbitrary units" were defined; thus, the unit is sometimes called an unknown unit. The unit only serves to compare multiple measurements performed in similar environment, since the ratio between the measurement and the reference is a consistent and dimensionless quantity independent of what actual units are used. Units of such kind are commonly used in fields such as physiology to indicate substance concentration, and spectroscop ... ARB Project
The ARB Project is a free software package for the phylogenetic analysis of rRNA and other biological sequences including DNA and protein sequence. It simplifies the import and assembly of genetic sequences from any organisms with the use of an automated aligner. This editing process can be depicted into two subcategories: "Primary Structure Editor" and "Secondary Structure Editor". This provides the necessary make up for developing a phylogenetic tree. The software provides the visualization of the biological sequences, commonly used when comparing phylogeny data from various organisms. Introduction From the authors' description, The ARB (ARB short for the Latin ''arbor'') program package comprises a variety of directly interacting software tools for sequence database maintenance and analysis controlled by a common graphical user interface. Although it was initially designed for ribosomal RNA data, it can be used for nucleic acid and amino acid sequence data. A central database co ...
