Aranda, Australian Capital Territory
Aranda () is a suburb in the district of Belconnen, in the Australian capital city of Canberra. Located at the western foot of Black Mountain (Australian Capital Territory), Black Mountain and bounded on two sides by nature park, the suburb is characterised by its bush setting. During the planning and development of the suburb, a large proportion of large native trees – predominantly eucalyptus, eucalypts – were left in place. The suburb derives its name from the Arrernte people, Arrernte tribe of Central Australia, previously known as ''Arunta'', which means 'White Cockatoo'. The streets in Aranda are named after Aboriginal tribal groups from around Australia. The suburb comprises an area of 160ha and in 1967 was the first suburb in Belconnen to be settled. A small plaque at the Aranda District playing fields near the suspension bridge over Belconnen Way marks the settlement of the suburb as the first development in the Belconnen district. The district is subdivided into 27 divisions (suburbs), sections and blocks. As at the , the district had a population of people; and was the most populous district within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Belconnen is situated approximately to the north-west of the City, Australian Capital Territory, central business district of Canberra, and surrounds an artificially created, ornamental lake, Lake Ginninderra. Cockatoo
A cockatoo is any of the 21 species of parrots belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea. Along with the Psittacoidea ( true parrots) and the Strigopoidea (large New Zealand parrots), they make up the order Psittaciformes. Belconnen Town Centre is the town centre of the district of Belconnen in the Australian Capital Territory. Is located on the south-western shore of Lake Ginninderra. Belconnen Town Centre contains several Federal and Territory government departments, as well as retail and commercial facilities. Barry Drive
Barry Drive is a major arterial road in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. The road forms part of the most direct route between the city centre, Belconnen Town Centre and Calvary Hospital, as well as providing access to the Australian National University and laboratories of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. Civic is the city centre or central business district of Canberra. "Civic" is a common name for the district, but it is also called Civic Centre, City Centre, Canberra City and Canberra, and its official division name is ''City''. Canberra's City was established in 1927. However, the division name City was not gazetted until 20 September 1928.
