Appointment With Music
''Appointment with Music'' is a half-hour American radio music program that was broadcast on NBC beginning on June 30, 1948. Singer Snooky Lanson headed the cast of ''Appointment with Music'', and Dorothy Dillard was the female vocalist. The Dixie Dons quartet also performed on the show, and Owen Bradley led a 26-piece orchestra. As the summer replacement for Jimmy Durante's program, ''Appointment with Music'' was broadcast on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The show's competition included ''Texaco Star Theater'' on ABC and ''The Whistler'' on CBS. The program originated from WSM in Nashville, Tennessee, and was sustaining. Owen Bradley
William Owen Bradley (October 21, 1915 – January 7, 1998) was an American musician, bandleader and record producer who, along with Chet Atkins, Bob Ferguson, Bill Porter, and Don Law, was a chief architect of the 1950s and 60s Nashville sound in country music and rockabilly.https://www.brittanica.com/biography/Owen-Bradley Bradley started with piano at a young age, and began performing professionally as a teenager. In American network television scheduling, a mid-season replacement is a television show that premieres in the second half of the traditional television season, usually between December and May. James Francis Durante ( , ; February 10, 1893 – January 29, 1980) was an American comedian, actor, singer, and pianist. His distinctive gravelly speech, Lower East Side New York accent, accent, comic language-butchery, jazz-influenced songs, and prominent nose helped make him one of the United States' most familiar and popular personalities of the 1920s through the 1970s. WSM (650 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station, located in Nashville, Tennessee. A sustaining program is a radio or television program that, despite airing on a commercial broadcast station, does not have commercial sponsorship or advertising. This term, mostly used in the United States, was common in the early days of radio, but has become unfamiliar owing to the nearly universal use of commercial advertising on radio and television.
