The Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station 2007 (APLIS07) is a U.S. and Japanese laboratory dedicated to the study of global climate change. Global Climate Change
In common usage, climate change describes global warming—the ongoing increase in global average temperature—and its effects on Earth's climate system. Climate change in a broader sense also includes previous long-term changes to Earth's climate. The current rise in global average temperature is more rapid than previous changes, and is primarily caused by humans burning fossil fuels. Fossil fuel use, deforestation, and some agricultural and industrial practices increase greenhouse gases, notably carbon dioxide and methane. Greenhouse gases absorb some of the heat that the Earth radiates after it warms from sunlight. Larger amounts of these gases trap more heat in Earth's lower atmosphere, causing global warming. Due to climate change, deserts are expanding, while heat waves and wildfires are becoming more common. Prudhoe Bay
Prudhoe Bay is a census-designated place (CDP) located in North Slope Borough, Alaska, North Slope Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. As of the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, the population of the CDP was 2,174 people, up from just five residents in the 2000 United States census, 2000 census; however, at any given time, several thousand transient workers support the Prudhoe Bay oil field. The Deadhorse Airport, airport, lodging and general store are located in Deadhorse, Alaska, Deadhorse, and the rigs and processing facilities are located on scattered gravel pads laid atop the tundra. The International Arctic Research Center, or IARC, established in 1999, is a research institution focused on integrating and coordinating study of Climate change in the Arctic. The primary partners in IARC are Japan and the United States. Participants include organizations from Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Norway, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
