An apostolic nuncio (; also known as a papal nuncio or simply as a nuncio) is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization. A nuncio is appointed by and represents the Holy See, and is the head of the diplomatic mission, called an apostolic nunciature, which is the equivalent of an embassy. Apostolic Nunciature To Turkey
The Apostolic Nunciature to Turkey is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Turkey. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. The Apostolic Nuncio to Turkey is usually also the Apostolic Nuncio to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan upon his appointment to said nations. Papal representation in the area that later became Turkey was initiated with the creation of the Apostolic Delegation to Constantinople in 1868, at a time when the Holy See had largely ceded the management of Church affairs in the region to the French Catholic Church. It was renamed the Apostolic Delegation to Turkey in 1930. Pier Luigi Celata
Pier Luigi Celata (born 23 January 1937) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who from July 2012 to December 2014 was Vice Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church. He spent much of his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He became an archbishop in 1986 and from 1986 to 2002 was Apostolic Nuncio to several countries. Biography He was born in Pitigliano, in province of Grosseto, on 23 January 1937. On 8 October 1961 he was ordained a priest for Diocese of Pitigliano. Luigi Conti (2 March 1929 – 5 December 2015) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He held the title of archbishop and the rank of nuncio from 1975. Biography Conti was born on 2 March 1929 in Ceprano, Province of Frosinone, Italy. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Veroli-Frosinone on 29 September 1954. He prepared for a diplomatic career at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. He early assignments working in the diplomatic service took him to Indonesia, Venezuela, Belgium, and France. In 1971 he became Permanent Observer of the Holy See to UNESCO in Paris. Edmond Farhat
Edmond Farhat (20 May 1933 – 17 December 2016) was a Lebanese prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Farhat was born in Ain Kfaa, Lebanon, on 20 May 1933. On 28 March 1959, the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch Paul Peter Meouchi ordained him a priest. He earned degrees in theology, philosophy and canon law in Paris and Rome and a doctorate in theology. From 1967 to 1989 he worked as undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops in Rome and from 1970 to 1989 as Professor of Islamic Law at the University of Sassari.
