''For the theatre in Harlem, see the Apollo Theatre'' The Apollon Theatre (Greek: ''θέατρο "Απόλλων'' ''Theatro Apollon'') is a theatre in Patras, Greece. Designed by the famous German architect Ernst Ziller, it was completed in 1872. The Apollon is located east of Georgiou I Square, one of Patras' popular squares. The theatre is a micrograph of the La Scala in Milan and is the oldest existing enclosed theatre of the same era. The Apollon Theatre has been the main stage of the Patras Municipal and Regional Theatre since 1988, and can hold up to 300 people. History The Apollon Theatre began construction on February 11, 1871, and opened on October 10, 1872. The construction was paid for by various residents of Patras. The main erection committee included Theodor Hamburger (president), Dimitrios Patrinos, K. Lappas and A. Chrysanthis. Georgios Roufos
Georgios Roufos (Greek: Γεώργιος Ρούφος, 1841–1891) was a Greek politician and Mayor of Patras for three terms, 1870–1874, 1874–1875 and 1887–1891. He was the 11th mayor of Patras. He was the son of Benizelos Roufos, a Prime Minister of Greece and Mayor of Patras, he is descended from the Rouphos-Kanakaris families with many generations of politicians and descended from southern Italy. He studied law in Athens and northwest to Paris. He married Roxani Mavromichali (Ρωξάνη Μαυρομιχάλη) and raised a son Ioannis Roufos. In 1864, he was attorney at the national assembly. During his mayoral run, he constructed and opened the Apollo Theatre, opened a public hospital, began the construction of wave braker at the Port of Patras, localized the opening of Georgiou I Square and ran the gaslight factory 1 km south-southwest of downtown. Archaeological Museum Of Patras
The New Archaeological Museum of Patras is a museum located in the city of Patras, Greece. Description The museum opened on July 24, 2009. The construction plans for the museum were initially announced by the then Minister of Culture, Melina Mercouri. However, the construction plans did not materialise until 2004. Built on a plot of land, with 8,000 square metres of interior spaces, it is the second-largest museum of Greece. The area surrounding the museum comprises a pool, a shiny metallic dome and greenery. In the near future, the vacant land next to the museum will be turned into a cultural park. It houses collections about the history of Patras and the surrounding area from prehistory to the end of Roman times. Syros
Syros ( el, Σύρος ), also known as Siros or Syra, is a Greek island in the Cyclades, in the Aegean Sea. It is south-east of Athens. Theater Apollon, Syros
The Apollo Theater, also known as the Municipal Theater "Apollo", is a theater located in Ermoupolis on Syros in the Cyclades. A cultural icon of the city, it was built in 1862–1864 to the designs of the Italian architect Pietro Sampò and opened on 20 April 1864. History In Ermoupoli, during the period 1830-1860 there was a great theatrical movement. On 30 October 1861, the City Council accepted the citizens' proposals and unanimously decided to build a theatre and a theater club in the central square. The construction costs of the theater were estimated at 60,000 drachmas, but in spite of controversy, a permanent roof replaced the wooden warehouses, clubs and cafes of Ermoupoli which had sheltered players since 1828.
