Aphasmaphleps
''Aphasmaphleps'' is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae from the Afrotropical realm. The genus was first described by Igor Grichanov in 2010. The name ''Aphasmaphleps'' refers to the genus ''Phasmaphleps'', which was originally considered to be closely related to it. According to Capellari & Grichanov (2012), ''Aphasmaphleps'' more closely resembles ''Asyndetus'' and ''Cryptophleps ''Cryptophleps'' is a genus of flies in the family Dolichopodidae Dolichopodidae, the long-legged flies, are a large, cosmopolitan family of true flies with more than 8,000 described species in about 250 genera. African Invertebrates
''African Invertebrates'' is a peer-reviewed open access scientific journal that covers the taxonomy, systematics, biogeography, ecology, conservation, and palaeontology of Afrotropical invertebrates, whether terrestrial, freshwater, or marine. As from 2016, it is published by Pensoft Publishers on behalf of the KwaZulu-Natal Museum and the editor-in-chief is John M. Midgley (KwaZulu-Natal Museum). History The journal was established in 1906 as the ''Annals of the Natal Government Museum'' and after 1910 renamed to ''Annals of the Natal Museum''. In 1989, the journal stopped publishing archaeological and anthropological papers, which was split of to a new journal, the ''Natal Museum Journal of Humanities'' (later: ''Southern African Humanities''), while the ''Annals of the Natal Museum'' were restricted to the natural sciences. The journal obtained its name in 2001 when its scope was limited to the study of invertebrates. Abstracting and indexing The journal is abstracted an ... Dolichopodidae
Dolichopodidae, the long-legged flies, are a large, cosmopolitan family of true flies with more than 8,000 described species in about 250 genera. The genus '' Dolichopus'' is the most speciose, with some 600 species. Dolichopodidae generally are small flies with large, prominent eyes and a metallic cast to their appearance, though there is considerable variation among the species. Most have long legs, though some do not. In many species, the males have unusually large genitalia which are taxonomically useful in identifying species. Most adults are predatory on other small animals, though some may scavenge or act as kleptoparasites of spiders or other predators. Description Dolichopodidae are a family of flies ranging in size from minute to medium-sized (1mm to 9mm). They have characteristically long and slender legs, though their leg length is not as striking as in families such as the Tipulidae. Their posture often is stilt-like standing high on their legs, with the body ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The Afrotropical realm is one of the Earth's eight biogeographic realms. It includes Sub-Saharan Africa, the southern Arabian Peninsula, the island of Madagascar, and the islands of the western Indian Ocean. It was formerly known as the Ethiopian Zone or Ethiopian Region. A broad belt of deserts, including the Atlantic coastal desert, Atlantic and Sahara deserts of northern Africa and the Arabian Desert of the Arabian Peninsula, separates the Afrotropic from the Palearctic realm, which includes northern Africa and temperate Eurasia. Sahel and Sudan South of the Sahara, two belts of tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands, tropical grassland and savanna run east and west across the continent, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Ethiopian Highlands.
