Anzob Tunnel
The Anzob Tunnel, Istiqlol Tunnel, or Ushtur Tunnel is a tunnel located northwest of Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe, at an elevation of . The tunnel is part of the M34 highway and connects the Tajik capital to the country's second largest city, Khujand. The tunnel was opened in 2006 despite being only partially finished. In 2014 Iran's government signed an agreement to finish the tunnel and the tunnel was reopened in late 2015. The tunnel saves drivers at least 4 hours when traveling between Dushanbe and Khujand and allows travelers to avoid having to pass through Uzbekistan. Dushanbe is the Capital city, capital and largest city of Tajikistan. , Dushanbe had a population of 1,564,700, with this population being largely Tajiks, Tajik. Zarafshan Range
The Zarafshan Range, formerly the Zeravshan Range, is a mountain range in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, part of the Pamir-Alay mountains. Almost all of the range belongs to the drainage basins of the Zarafshan River. The Persian name is believed to possibly be a reference to gold found in bed of the Zarafshan River and its tributaries, which has ushered prosperity to the region from ancient times. Piskon (, ''Paskan'', Yaghnobi: Пискон, پسکان) is a village in Sughd Region, northwestern Tajikistan. It is part of the jamoat Anzob in the Ayni District. Its population was 79 people as of 2017, up from 68 in 2007. The village is connected by a gravel road and like most Yaghnobi villages consists of a cluster of dwelling constructed with dry stone walls and flat roofs. There is some terracing in the village itself and the topography is very steep. History There are neolithic petroglyphs near the village.
