Any Colour
"Any Colour" is a track from Cutting Crew's debut album, ''Broadcast'', released in 1986. The album is best known for the hit single "I Just Died in Your Arms," which catapulted the band to international fame. Although "Any Colour" did not achieve the same commercial success, it remains a beloved song among fans. About "Any Colour" the songwriter Nick Van Eede said: "That is the song where things clicked for us. Everything that took five days previously would take about ten minutes. Kevin, our founding member with me, who is sadly no longer with us, flew in from Halifax, Nova Scotia to be with Terry Brown in his studio in Toronto. Terry, the Rush producer, was already my mate. The session really worked. Nick had this beautiful guitar part and said that is all he had, and I came up with another part. We wrote it in twenty minutes, and it became our first demo. Cutting Crew is an English rock band formed in London in 1985. They are best known for their debut studio album ''Broadcast'' (1986) and their UK Top 40 hit singles, "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" and " I've Been in Love Before". History 1985–1986: Formation While still in his teens, Nick Van Eede (born Nicholas Eede) recorded a few UK solo singles in the late 1970s. Later, he was in the band the Drivers, which found success in Canada, particularly with their 1982 single "Tears on Your Anorak". While touring Canada, the Drivers had a support band called Fast Forward, whose line-up included guitarist Kevin MacMichael. Van Eede was so impressed with MacMichael's guitar playing that he asked him to form a new band with him. The Drivers broke up in 1984, but MacMichael continued to tour with Fast Forward. ''Broadcast'' is the debut studio album by the English rock band Cutting Crew. It was first released in the United Kingdom in November 1986, and was later released more widely, including in the United States, Canada and Japan in March 1987 with different packaging and four remixed tracks ("Any Colour", "One for the Mockingbird", "I've Been in Love Before" and "(I Just) Died in Your Arms"), all of which were released as singles. Nick Van Eede
Nick Van Eede (born Nicholas Eede; 14 June 1958) is an English singer, songwriter and record producer. He is best known for singing and writing the 1986 No. 1 power ballad, " (I Just) Died in Your Arms" for his band Cutting Crew, which saw international success including a top 10 placing on the UK Singles Chart. Career 1978–1981 While working as a hospital orderly in the late 1970s, Van Eede was discovered playing by ex-member of the Animals, Chas Chandler, who sent him on a tour of Poland aged 18 as support for Slade. His career continued with tours supporting headliners such as David Essex, Hot Chocolate and Alan Price. During that time, Van Eede released five solo singles on Barn Records between 1978 and 1980, but none of them charted on the UK Singles Chart. Kevin MacMichael
Kevin Scott Macmichael (7 November 1951 – 31 December 2002) was a Canadian guitarist, songwriter and record producer, best known for being a member of the 1980s UK-based pop-rock band, Cutting Crew, who had a number-one hit in 1986 with "(I Just) Died in Your Arms". Cutting Crew was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1988. Early life Macmichael was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Career Early years Kevin got his first guitar in 1963, as did his friend Sandy Bryson. They were Beatles fans from the very beginning, learned to play many of their early songs, and went to see '' A Hard Day's Night'' in Halifax. MacMichael and Bryson started a band called The FourToGo in Dartmouth in 1964 with drummer Darrell Lysens and lead guitarist Al Arsenault, managed by Larry Manette.
