António Da Silva Samuel
Samuel António da Silva Tavares Quina (born 3 August 1966), known simply as Samuel, is a Portuguese retired footballer. Having played mostly for Benfica in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he operated mainly as a central defender. Club career Samuel was born in Bissau, Portuguese Guinea. A product of S.L. Benfica's youth ranks, he made his debut with the first team on 30 December 1983 (aged 17) after being brought on as a substitute by manager Sven-Göran Eriksson in a 4–0 home win over G.D. Chaves in the Taça de Portugal. His only Primeira Liga goal came in a 2–2 away draw against S.C. Braga, and he went on to have a somewhat important role in the Lisbon club for seven seasons. Samuel started in the final of the 1989–90 European Cup, a 1–0 loss against AC Milan, pitching in at left-back on the occasion. The 1990 European Cup final was a football match between AC Milan of Italy and Benfica of Portugal, played on 23 May 1990 at the Praterstadion in Vienna, Austria. The winning goal came in the 68th minute for Milan, when Frank Rijkaard ran through the opposing defence and scored the only goal of the match. Domingos Quina (born 18 November 1999) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Cypriot club Pafos. Born in Guinea-Bissau, he has represented Portugal at international youth level. He is the son of former Portugal international defender Samuel Quina. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football.
