Antonio Torres (baseball)
Antonio Eduardo Torres López (August 18, 1931 – December 16, 2023), nicknamed "Manía," was a Colombian professional baseball player and coach. He managed the Colombia national baseball team in several international tournaments in the 1970s. Career Born in Cartagena, Torres grew up idolizing the exploits of pitcher Carlos "Petaca" Rodríguez, earning his nickname from imitating Petaca's facial expressions on the mound. As a teen, he played with the Cundinamarca team in the Colombian amateur championship, and became one of the first Colombian players to sign with an organized baseball team, joining the Baltimore Orioles organization. In the Colombian Professional Baseball League, Torres played two seasons with the Indios de Cartagena, before being traded to Vanytor de Barranquilla in 1950. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch Batted ball, fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the Baseball, bases. The Leones de León are a professional baseball team competing in the Nicaragua Professional Baseball League (LPBN). Their home games are played at Estadio Héroes y Mártires de Septiembre in León, Nicaragua. Their biggest rival is Indios del Bóer, which are based in the capital of Managua. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. Álvaro Laureano Miguel Gómez Hurtado A.K.A. Álvaro Gómez Hurtado (May 8, 1919 – November 2, 1995) was a Colombian lawyer, politician, painter, writer, journalist and former active member of the Colombian Conservative Party. Gómez was founder of conservative dissidence known as Movimiento de Salvación Nacional (National Salvation Movement), and their first presidente since 1990 to 1995, when he was murdered. Gómez was a son of the former President of Colombia, Laureano Gómez, who ruled that country from 1950 to 1951, until he was forced to resigned by army forces commanded by the general Gustavo Rojas Pinilla. Gómez was seen as successor of his father, and his father's political enemies became his adversaries. He is mostly remembered for being one of the writers of the Colombian Constitution of 1991, for running three times for the presidency, without success (in 1974, 1986 and 1990), and for his murder at the hands of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. Baseball At The Pan American Games
The baseball tournament at the Pan American Games has long been considered to be one of the premier international baseball events in the world, even higher than the Olympic Games. This is because the level of competition is higher than in the Olympics, where only two teams from the Americas traditionally were permitted to qualify. Cuba has dominated the tournament since its inception. Cubans field their strongest players, while the Americans sent college players, as the schedule does not allow MLB players to participate. In 2013, a women's tournament was added to the program, effective with the 2015 Games. A total of seven men and five women's teams competed in each tournament respectively. In 2019, the women's tournament was not held, while the men's tournament was increased to 8 teams.
