Antonio Casale
Antonio Casale (17 May 1932 – 4 February 2017) was an Italian film actor of the 1960s and 1970s who appeared in mostly Spaghetti Western Italian films between 1965 and 1976. Although his later roles were more prominent, Casale is probably most known worldwide for his brief appearance as the dying Bill Carson in Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Western ''The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'' in 1966, a film that has consistently been voted one of the greatest of all time. "The revolt of the gladiatrices"), also known as ''Naked Warriors'', is a 1974 gladiator exploitation film directed by Steve Carver and starring Margaret Markov and Pam Grier. Joe D'Amato, the film's cinematographer, has stated that he took over direction of the fight scenes in the film. Pam Grier and Margaret Markov portray female gladiators in ancient Rome, who have been enslaved and must fight for their freedom. ''Caligula'' ( it, Caligola) is a 1979 erotic historical drama film focusing on the rise and fall of the eponymous Roman Emperor Caligula. The film stars Malcolm McDowell in the title role, alongside Teresa Ann Savoy, Helen Mirren, Peter O'Toole, John Steiner and John Gielgud. Producer Bob Guccione, the founder of ''Penthouse'' magazine, intended to produce an erotic feature film narrative with high production values and name actors. Gore Vidal originated the idea for a film about the controversial Roman emperor and produced a draft screenplay under the working title ''Gore Vidal's Caligula''. The director, Tinto Brass, extensively altered Vidal's original screenplay, however, leading Vidal to disavow the film.
