Anton Kolig
Anton Kolig (1 July 1886 – 17 May 1950) was an Austrian expressionist painter. Biography Anton Kolig was born in Neutitschein as the son of salon artist Ferdinant Kolig. He studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts with Oscar Kokoschka in 1904–1907, then from 1907 he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under the guidance of Heinrich Lefler and Alois Delug. In 1911, the work presented by him at the exhibition attracted the attention of specialists who awarded Kolig a scholarship and organized a trip to France. After the outbreak of war, he returned to Austria. During the First World War, starting in 1916, he was in military service, and worked as a military artist in Vienna. Kolig was a teacher, a professor in Stuttgart from 1928 to 1943. In 1944, he was seriously injured as a result of Allied bombing in World War II. Expressionism is a modernist movement, initially in poetry and painting, originating in Northern Europe around the beginning of the 20th century. Its typical trait is to present the world solely from a subjective perspective, distorting it radically for emotional effect in order to evoke moods or ideas. Oscar Kokoschka
Oskar Kokoschka (1 March 1886 – 22 February 1980) was an Austrian artist, poet, playwright, and teacher best known for his intense expressionistic portraits and landscapes, as well as his theories on vision that influenced the Viennese Expressionist movement. Early life The second child of Gustav Josef Kokoschka, a Bohemian goldsmith, and Maria Romana Kokoschka (née Loidl), Oskar Kokoschka was born in Pöchlarn. He had a sister, Berta, born in 1889; a brother, Bohuslav, born in 1892; and an elder brother who died in infancy. Oskar had a strong belief in omens, spurred by a story of a fire breaking out in Pöchlarn shortly after his mother gave birth to him. Heinrich Lefler
Heinrich Lefler (7 November 1863, in Vienna – 14 March 1919, in Vienna) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist and stage designer. His father was the painter Franz Lefler. Life and work From 1880 to 1884, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Christian Griepenkerl and, from 1884, at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich under Nikolaus Gysis and Wilhelm von Diez. In 1891, he became a member of the Society of Austrian Artists and, in 1900, was a founding member of the Hagenbund. From 1900 to 1903, he was an assistant to Anton Brioschi, the head designer at the Vienna State Opera, following which he became a professor at the Academy until 1910. While at the Vienna Opera, he designed a set for the Metropolitan Opera and shipped the pieces to New York. Alois Delug
Alois Delug (25 May 1859 – 17 September 1930) was an Austrian painter and a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. He may be remembered best for his supposed role in rejecting Adolf Hitler's application to join the Academy. Life After attending the '' Gymnasium'' in Bozen, Delug started painting, with encouragement from the painter Heinrich Schöpfer. He moved to Innsbruck and began studying history at the University of Innsbruck, staying until 1880, when he moved to Vienna and enrolled at the Academy, studying under the painter Leopold Carl Müller. In 1885, he began a three-year period of travelling, visiting England, Italy, France, Germany and Holland, then settled in Munich in 1888 and accepted orders for historical and religious paintings. In 1896, he moved back to Vienna, and became a founding member of the Vienna Secession, though he resigned from it in 1898. Nötsch im Gailtal ( sl, Čajna) is a market town in the district of Villach-Land in the Austrian state of Carinthia. Geography Located west of Villach, the municipal area stretches along the lower Gail valley in southern Carinthia at the foot of the Villacher Alpe (Dobratsch) massif, the eastern extension of the Gailtal Alps.
